Incidentally if I do go and the recording is good, how would I go about posting on here so that others can share?

    Cheers Dave

Get yourself logged on to YouTube, Dave and its plain sailing from there. (Must be as I can do it !! ) You end up just transferring the vid to your own 'pictures/vids' section on computer and load to YouTube from there. When you are completed, and are given a ref number, copy and paste that number to this site.....and we can all share. Looking forward to it, good luck Pete

Seems to have more than her fair share of coal problems, talked about on previous sites; even when I went on the Padd-Derby trip back in early 90's. General opinion is requirement for a decent sort of coal, but where does it come from ??!!! Fingers crossed she's ok though ; far better to see the King in full flow rather than ambling along to conserve energy !!

Ah, but Sunday through to Friday Platform 1 is occupied between 2130 & 2345 (2350 Sun) with The Night Riviera Sleeper. Very difficult replatforming that considering it's long layover.

Bit harsh on us, as we don't operate the barriers! I can't even get through and I merely work there!

I was on that Derby trip in the early 90's, remembering it standing at Banbury (water stop?) having a blow up with the Ethel rumbling behind it. Also had a similar experience with 71000 on a Derby trip around the same time. Seem to remember one of these even had to stop at Didcot North Junction for a blow up, even though the steam loco came off at Didcot Station! Same just before Banbury Station as well.

I normally upload my clips direct to the forum just like adding a photo. When posting your reply and file, click the 'Go Advanced' tab below your reply text box. Then you can enter your reply text, a little further down the page is a button to 'manage attachments'. Here you can upload your file which will appear as a link when you post your reply. The downside of this is a file limit of 2Mb I think so I normally post fairly short clips at around 96kps. This is quite limiting for a sound file so you might want to try one of the other options suggested or just supply a link from your own website?

Certainly the sound of steam on the main line at night can be very evocative and I'm sure many of us would be interested in listening to your recordings.

Sorry delay, Dave, been out. I've trawled Youtube but cannot find an answer and in fact I have not seen any 'audio only' files. I've posed the question on the 'help' page and will let you know if I get answer. In the meantime, enjoy tomorrow; I shall be at Twyford for the pick up.

You can make a 'video' with one or more stills as a slide show to go with your sound track. Obviously you will need an editor for this but Windows Movie Maker should work fine. You may notice that several of our regular video contributors put their titles over a still but with the soundtrack, then feeding in to the first clip. Having just said that I had a quick look to find one, and I can't.....

No, but all you have to do is stick a simple image along with the audio. In fact, you could have a black rectangle as your image, thus effectively achieving what you ask for. But at least make it a pretty picture that represents the audio, pretty please?

You'll probably be told that YT is a video sharing site, etc.

Thanks for that, but if its pure audio, how does the image attach ??? ( I'm not too good at all this as you may guess ) . Its great to have an expert along, many thanks. Pete

Just use Windows Movie Maker. It comes with most PCs as standard. Just bung the audio on its audio track (drag and drop it), then bung any image you like onto the image track. Then s-t-r-e-t-c-h out the image to the duration of the song.

Once you've done that, you'll be wanting to change images with the soundscape of the music. I guarantee it!

Please do let me know if you need any more help. I should be back later on. Just keep your music safe and you can't do any harm.

Hope it hasn't filled this forum page, but if you can get it to work, its well worth it. I think you'll be ok. Pete

Oh dear the assumption that everyone uses Windows. I haven't used it for years just use OpenSuse Linux so much less trouble and much more secure.

You have given me an idea though lots of folk put music on Youtube with just a picture, trouble is I haven't got one of 6024.

Thanks guys for looking all I need is a good recording to start with.

    Cheers Dave

It's pretty foggy north of Oxford this morning. What's it like in the Thames valley and the Vale of the White Horse at the moment? The forecast's good, so I'll pop out later, possibly to Cholsey.

Dave I've no doubt that someone would supply a few suitable pictures. I will also volunteer my services if you wish, supply the sound track in suitable format and the pics and I'll gladly set it up.

What a fantastic sight at Twyford. Misty and dull, but with a full head of steam, she went off with her 12 coaches just couple of minutes down. Notice on coaches 7/11, the train boards 'The Royal Scot' !!!!! Try vid later but I think steam valve open might cover up any usual acceleration sounds !!
