Regarding the virus it was mentioned that it is transported by midges rather than contact by others animals included in the same way that the Blue Tounge virus, so a knee jerk reaction to hikers and walkers is wholly inapropriate but understandable .

Back to Tornado now. There didn't seem to be that many people around on Sunday. Talking to a few people they seem to think she is starting to lose her appeal? But someone said it could be down to her being in BR green livery? After talking to a few normal people they associate Tornado in apple green with British Railways on the tender and not in BR green.

The trains were busy enough without being packed, which made it a very pleasant day - and it was probably the 'wrong' weekend of the half term break - and there were still plenty of people around her at either end!

Just wait 'til she comes out in blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong I'm up for having her in blue. It gets a bit boring seeing locos in BR green all the time.

    How very true!!!!!!!!

But the trust are just doing what they promised - I just wished that a few more loco owners would 'bite the bullet' and out shop their charges in a different livery as and when they can (and yes I'm fully aware that cost plays a major part!) thereby gaining more interest in their charge especially on terms of hiring out for gala's etc, thereby justifying the initial cost of a repaint by extra revenues earned!

i think T look great in BR green , a real beast like the Duke...and that's how many people remember the a1's from their train-spotting or travelling in BR days.

yes in apple green she had an 'image' which certainly bode her well commercially but at the moment the Brunswick suits
her and when she comes out in Blue then no doubt that will be something too!

shame the next week's double header with 71000 Duke seems to have gone up the wall...Duke is out of action :(

to have seen T and Duke together was something i was looking forward to, i am booked on it!
i wonder what other engine big T will be shoving up the Devon banks lol!

From the sound of it, it looks in all probability that it will be 6024 as she seems to be the only loco available in the vicinity/ at short notice - which was the original pairing when the tour was first announced!

A member of the 6024 society has posted in The Works that this is indeed likely, but they will confirm after The Bristolian on Sat 3rd.

IIRC, the original pairing was 6023+6024, but when it was found that 6023 would not be certified in time, both Kings were replaced with the pacifics. Are you perhaps thinking of the "Return To Steam" anniversary tour? That was to feature 6024 & 60163, but they weren't going to double-head. The plan was 6024 Hereford - Badminton - Brum then 60163 Brum - HiWy - Paddington.

This is the info from UKSteam - I've had to look twice, originally there was no pairing, just flying solo and when you look at it, maybe that's where I got a little :confused1: , so yes, I concede that technically you are correct!

I'd love to have Tornado (or any steam loco) at the bottom of my garden or in my house. Sadly I have to put up with Class 442 Gatwick Expresses which I hate (especially as I rarely hear the 377's and 319's that run through Haywards Heath) mainly as they don't iusually stop and sound their annoyingly loud horns.

Whilst you might not like the sound of 442 Wessex Electrics they are the last propper Southern Region electrics to grace the national network ...

Sorry, a bit Off Thread but
Bedpan unit fired up! | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

It's not so much fun when the Hampshire Unit starts up, but at least that is authentic, these houses were built in 1967....

Currently the BedPan unit is resident - the tress to the right of the cab are at the bottom of my garden in this pic

Sorry - would still like to know when she is leaving the MHR I see the following
Saturday 10th March - 'The Cathedrals Express' - London to Exeter and Plymouth (double-headed with No. 71000 Duke of Gloucester Paddington to Plymouth and return to Taunton) - Steam Dreams but 71000 is unavailable I understand from other threads here
