Completely tongue in cheek, but you missed mention of '81 operating at Swanage too...that could make all the difference to some purchasers!

Our sales chap has missed the fact we operated at Llangollen too. He has been asked to update the description as such details may make the difference between getting a few hundred pounds instead of a few hundred pence. :)

Good point about Llangollen, as a loco that has ventured 'over the border' to educate the Western Region then that must make it more valuable.

Of course. Almost impossible to put a value on that. :)

What is my sawn off section of brake ejector handle from 34081 worth I wonder .. Original from BR days , found on cab floor when the loco was at Barry Docks - now in secure storage in Canada !

Interesting marketing dilemma here. As far as I can see you are selling one piece and taking bids - but is another five days to see if I had won! So which raises more - auctioning one, or selling multiple at a fixed price?

Since it is 4" long, the tubes are probably 10 foot plus and maybe 200 of them, potentially you have 6000-ish similar items you could sell. So would it be better to put a notional price that is low enough that it is basically an "oh sod it, I'll buy it" level (say £1 - £5 - take your pick, plus P&P of course) and sell it as a "buy it now" item. Or would you attract more through exclusivity and selling at auction?

We'll send round the heavy gang and they will "persuade" you to give it back. :)

Good points that I'll pass on. We won't be sawing all the tubes into short bits though as that will absorb a lot of time for something that may not sell that well.

A Few years ago i purchased a boiler tube from the mighty mogul 42968 it was mounted on a small wood plinth and made into a pen holder which sits on my desk in Work it was numbered 213 of 350 and sold for about £12.00 i believe they sold them all so making a good profit for the loco. Another group also did boot scrapers from old railway chairs i also have one of these.

Back in 1969, the Middleton Railway acquired the boiler tubes from Flying Scotsman, cut them up and had them shotblasted and mounted on a piece of teak complete with plaque and offered them for sale as a penholder. I think they sold about a dozen!

Best of luck with your tubes. I hope you have more success.

I'm very tempted just because it would wind my boss up having a piece of "scrap metal" on my desk - however he's had enough on his plate in the last few days with other people taking the proverbial so I might see how its doing nearer the end!

We live in hope but I doubt we'll raise much. Every little helps though.

I've started the bidding off as it's for a good cause. It would be grand though if you could all please pop over to Home | Vulcan To The Sky & help out there if you can. I've posted this e-bay link over on our VTST forum. Thank you.

The LNERCA sells paper knives made from scrap teak salvaged from a Gresley BTK that we broke up at York, a snip at £7.50 + P & P each! Still a few left if you PM me!
