We're running 50 late at Kemble, pretty limited scope to get it back. Train not setting down at Twyford, will be straight through.

Thanks very much. If you could provide an update when say passing Didcot, that would be great as from there to Twyford including a stop at Reading should take around 30 minutes.

Well, the King put on a major fireworks display going up Sapperton Bank, sounded fantastic too. It was impossible to lean out of the window in the 3rd coach which was being bombarded with burning embers. I'm glad they fireproof the coaches :)

The on-train raffle raised £2500+ for Help The Heroes, well done to the organisers, customers and prize-givers.

Just back from this one. 'bout an hour late at Euston and just enough time to nip across to Marylebone and home. Excellent service Chiltern run these days. An super day out but I bet SD were thinking 'not again' but less politely when we ran up against that failed signal. Had to run sig. to sig almost all the way to Chippenham.
    Thanks to all.
I believe I heard on the intercom that the collection pot also raised about 2K but I may have mixed it with the raffle. Help for heroes also presented everyone with a really nice thank you certificate. Nice touch I thought.

Well that was the best recording I never made.
Set up the gear at Frampton Mansell high above the railway and waited and waited................
Got so cold that I was stiffening up because of arthritis and after almost an hour after time decided to pack up my gear and call it a day.
I'd just put my wheelchair in the car when I heard the King whistle what a b*****d.
That I'd missed one of the best sounds I'd heard for a long time was truly galling but then such is life.
    Better luck next time perhaps.

    Cheers Dave

Despite the signalling problem delays on the outward run which caused the late departure of the return run this was a great day out. 6024 and her crews were on magnificent form throughout with some very spirited running including lots of fast running on the return and some spectacular hill climbing. On Sapperton some of the sparks were getting right back to our carriage which was near the rear of the train.

It was very good to see so much money being raised for a very worthy cause; around £2500 from the raffle and they must have got a fair bit from selling the excellent 6024 book (for £10 with all money going to HFH) as many copies were sold by the end of the day.
The HFH certificate was a nice touch I thought.
That was my final run with 6024 before she goes in for overhaul and what a run it was! Superb. Thanks to all involved.

Thats a real hitter !! Sorry to hear that, but it is a problem with return journeys if you can't find out whether the train has departed the original destination. I do
try to find that out when venturing, but then I usually have plenty of time as I'm near Reading . Different for you; think you had a journey ! As you say, better luck next time and lets hope that for tomorrows 'Bristolian', KH1 doesn't come across any more dead signals !!!!

Just like to say a big thank you to Steam Dreams, DBS and of course 6024's Support Crew. She really is a true credit to all of your hard work.

I haven't been behind her for too many years but yesterdays run made up for it. The only thing I'm annoyed about was that I had to leave at Ealing Broadway to grab my train home, as myself and my brother really wanted to head into Euston. There will be a next time however.

As mentioned on other posts, the signal failure when incurred would of been hard to recover from in my mind. Whilst watching her in the distance of Canton Depot waiting to come in, you have to bear in mind that we were then into rush hour at Cardiff and I must of seen 6 units come into the station empty ready for the evening commute, plus the Northern Belle.

Anyway, I managed my first hand at timing and managed all the way to and back up to Southall. I've got to comprehend my notes over the weekend and will post the information up here with the Caveat of it being my first time so no doubt there will be an error!

Once again thank you to all concerned for what was to me, an outstanding run all in aid of a good cause.

    Regards

    James

I can sympathise up to a point, though on the other hand I was texting via Railtour Live and posting on here from 17.50 yesterday exactly what was happening with the train. I updated the info at least 5 times after that, when we set off, when we passed Lydney, when we left Gloucester, when we passed Kemble, and more. This isn't to criticise, but the information about the progress or lack of it was being updated regularly by me and others, so no one needs to be in your situation if they have a mobile phone.

I'll have to do this in future but on the day in question I'd found one of those holes in the mobile coverage so it wouldn't of helped.

This isn't Frampton Mansell but just trying Mark's suggestion of SoundCloud for including sound recordings. Click on the link below to load the track then click on the play button. If you don't listen to the whole track, check out the whistle at the start of the track, the sound must reflect three or four times before fading away, best listening in headphones:

Ok Ralph, might be a fail then, no point in making people sign in to listen, I'll have another look at it.

Ok, think it's fixed. Had it set up as a private track, now public, should be available without signing in.
