The Bath and Bristol tour with Tangmere arrives in Bath on the day of the half marathon.

So if you are thinking of taking photographs in Bath, there are quite a few road closures - one of which is on the dual carriageway of the A4 at Corston alongside the line to Bristol.

Well spotted that man!! The roads are expected to reopen at 15:30. Not so good for the outward leg (can you imagine the traffic jams!) but will be OK for the returning glint shot. <BJ>

Is this one still running? 34067 is still at Carnforth with no date set as far as I can see to return south. Is it still going to be 34067?

I'm wondering the same thing. All one can do is hope for a ferry move. 60163 is not used on RTC tours.

    1. It might be possible for Bittern what is the Status of her?
    2. Clan Line to the Rescue. Is that all that is in London?

I think that Bittern is the most likely option that RTC would want to pursue. I think that Clan Line is the best option however. First no LE moves. Second, no worries about taking a locmotive(such as Bittern) out of a maintenece period. But again, like Tornado would RTC use her on a trip?

Yeah choices do seem low at the moment and 34067 is also down for another Bath and Bristol on the 24th from Three Bridges. I hope she can make it but 4464 and 35028 seem the only choices. 35028 is a possibility as it is down for Cathedrals on July 9th and has done one already with 44932 in December 2010 but as for 4464 I'm not sure where her maintainence is at but she's due at the SVR Gala at the end of the month so she will have to be ready soon.

Bittern has yet to come off winter maintenance AFAIK so I think you'd be lucky to get her on the 11th.

Just a few days ago we had a tread started in Steam Traction asking if we had too many main line locomotives, now we are struggling for locomotives for certain tours.

Just goes to prove how misleading just counting total numbers can be without allowing for route availability, support crew availability, size of loco, maintenance periods, restrictions on use by toc's etc. can be!

I guess one problem is that a lot of the mainline fleet are currently based in the North of England where as 60163, 35028, 6024 and 4464 are I think the only mainline loco's in the South and 6024 is about to bow out of service.

Maybe one of the Riley Fives or 45305 could come down south and take its place but then again maybe there'll be a late call in the week for Tangmere to do a LE down to Southall.

All should be revealed on Thursday when we see which loco moves south from Carnforth. uksteam.info has it as 34067/44932 (provisional). I'm hoping for 34067 as I'm not sure if a Black 5 could manage the climb to Upton Scudamore without a bit of help if it's a Class 7 load.

I will feel bad for those customers to have to ride behind a 5 instead of Tangmere. They need a better substitute locomotive than that. Clan Line

Clanline usually only runs when the toc is DBS.It ran the Steam Dreams trip with 44932 in December 2010 when the toc was West Coast. Has it ever been used by RTC ?

Are Stanier class 5s still restricted to 60mph? They were a few years ago when 73096 was allowed to do 70mph but not 45231. I was just wondering if the times will have to change for a lower allowed maximum speed.
