Only in the faint hope that it will get back on track and you'll stop bickering like infants.

For my part, I am putting my trust in those running the 762 project.

Why must every party to this unedifying game of ping pong be determined to have the last word? Please leave it!

I've visited Woody Bay twice in my life. The first time I was probably about 10 or so (was back when the Exmoor Railway was still open to the public, 1998??) and Woody Bay was a house. I was a member of the then Association and had a real passion for the railway. I was absolutely hooked and I dreamed of one day driving a replica Manning Wardle across Lancey Brook Viaduct!

The second time was on holiday last year. I managed to persuade my girlfriend that a trip from Tavistock to Lynton would be a good idea (not idea how I managed it, but was impressed) and I have to say it was one of the absolutely best railway days out I have ever had! We were very lucky to be say in First Class with two lovely ladies who had arrived on a Coach Trip. Woody Bay was beautiful, so atmospheric and absolutely stunning! The views down across Exmoor and out to Sea were superb, there was even a Cruise Ship we could see! I didn't want it to stop, I wanted to go through to Parracombe and beyond! It was amazing. I've never felt the desire to volunteer my time with another railway then the L&B. Then, of course, I discovered the NatPres bickering. It can be quite off-putting!

That said, fortunately for me, the desire to drive Lyn out of Parracombe might just be stronger then my hatred of the petty bickering ;-)

I, like spuduk have also been to woody bay twice and I love the line. I found the station staff very friendly and I enjoyed the train ride (even though I banged my head on the carriage roof!). I would volunteer there, but a drive from the cotswolds is a little too far me thinks. Will definatly pop down again once the heritage carraiges are in action.

Obviously rebuidling the line will take time. But I would like to see some physical work being done soon, such as the bridge at killington lane? As for 762, I hope the line is longer by the time its finished, otherwise we will be stuck with an oversized loco on a small line.

Hi CrazyTrain, if you check out the website, you'll see that the preparations for the Transport and Works Order are underway, and that no building of bridges etc can be undertaken until that is granted. Please feel free to donate a fiver (or preferably more!) to the All Aboard fund that is sponsoring the TWO! Go to: ALL ABOARD! | Lynton_&_ Barnstaple_Railway

    Cheers!

I see the point of my post has been missed entirely. I don't want to plough throgh pages of bickering to find out what is hapeening at the L&B. I don't care if you do want to wash your dirty linen in public, but I'd like for it to be kept seperate from actual news. Being interested in the revived L&B is not the same as caring about people's grudges.

I really did not regard my post as a 'last word'. So So Sorry

Some of us wish to see 762 completed and I thought that it was fair to show support for the project.

    Hi Pete -
as one particular person seems to be 'engineering' the "handbagging" on these threads, I recommend you go to the L&B website for news updates rather than post on Nat Pres! :)
In fact the L&B site has regular updates (usually once a week), and if you become a member then you'll get regular newsletters and a magazine which recently won an award: The Last Great Railway Adventure - the Legendary L&B | Lynton_&_ Barnstaple_Railway

I shall just post this once. Seeing as I am now a handbagger.

News comes from many short lines here and is welcomed. Whenever anything has been posted concerning the Lynton and Banstaple which I am sure many would like to hear, very quickly there are posts from the Engineer (and friends) which effectively calls into question the competency of the Lynton and Barnstaple Trust, which for better or worse is a democratic society.

The thread always is turned to the 'engineering facility' at Bratton, which for a number of very good reasons could no longer be supported by the trust. The Engineer repeats himself on every thread that things will fail because that facility is no longer.

I am sure that all who follow the L&B are very aware of the Engineer's stance and repeating it at every opportunity effectively blocks out any real news about the L&B. It is called trolling. Each time allegations are made which effectively have to be rebutted for the sake of the reputation of the Trust. This inevitably diverts attention from the real progress of the L&B.

This is even more inappropriate as the main forces involved with the railway are now working together.

If that is handbagging, I am sorry, but the constant repetitive posts concerning the defunct 'engineering facility' at Bratton do nothing but damage the railway.

I am not in any capacity a director of the railway but am a member of the Trust and also Exmoor Associates. I just want everybody to stop whinging and put their backs behind the project.

Blimey! Now it's turning into "'Allo, 'Allo"!

Trolling in any form is extremely boring and I am very happy to double check with official websites to get updates, about the L & B, Lyn or whatever. So if there is some breaking news just plug it here with a relevant link.

John, it takes two to tango!

To be fair your style of aggressive communication equally portrays the L&BR in a bad light. And I would agree with what was hinted at in an earlier post, you do desire to have the last word in any argument.

And there's a comment I must entirely endorse.

I draw the attention of all members of the L&BR Trust who may read this to the SE Area Groups Meeting at Woking in Surrey on the 28th April. Provisional details have been published on the L&BR website.

The meeting is my personal initiative which I believe (and hope) will serve to demonstrate the intent of the various organisations which have become embodied within the railway’s structure to put the past behind them and all work together for the good of the railway. I firmly believe in the old adage of “United we stand, divided we fall”.

The meeting will bring together Trustees and/or Directors from the L&BR Trust, 762 Club and Exmoor Associates into a combined event under a single roof, where they will each make a presentation to those attending as to their purpose and future plans of their organisations. To benefit ordinary members, each presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

There will also be separate presentation by the Essex Support Group on the L&B Heritage Coach Project.

Now I’m out of here to reflect on more important things, like how many tea bags, pints of milk and packet of biscuits will be needed for the meeting!

Good move Chris! I've had that date in my diary for some time, but will that be Typhoo, PG Tips or Yorkshire?

According to this - Baldwin 2-4-2 - Lyn's boiler design has been approved by the insurance engineer and construction has now started at Bennett Boilers.

I hope some photos will be made available on the 762club website soon.

This is SHOCKING. HOW DARE the Lyn group pay to have SOMEONE ELSE build their boiler OFF-SITE? I am APPALLED!!

It's not like the original was built elsewhere...oh wait...:D

Perhaps when it is finished, we could knock it down, crate it up and ship off to Philidelphia, for them to put it all together again over there. What? They're closed? Oh well... :)
