    For those how manage Dutch:

    Replica stoomlocomotief HSM 814

a (just new) web site about a rebuild idea of a Dutch express-engine.

For the moment the Netherlands are one of the few countries in Europa which do not have an operational mainline engine (from original Dutch origine)

My knowledge of Dutch is nil but it's surprising how much you can learn by just looking at the pictures and plans and 'reading' the text.

If they succeed in building one of them I will move hell and high water to see it, it looks absolutely magnificent!

Fine looking machine - the front 2/3rds looks very British, were these a Beyer Peacock design?

I can get enough of the text to gather they were made by Werkspoor in the Netherlands in 1914/15. There is an air of Beyer Peacock about them although I recall that Beyer's 4-4-0's for the Netherlands were outside framed. Perhaps they were a B.P. design but not made here on account of World War 1.

Many NS designed originated with Beyer Peacock, were "improved" and perpetuated locally. What ever happened to 3737? I thought it had a new boiler not too long ago? Now that loco is a beauty

DON'T GO THERE (please), that story is "Flying Scotsman on steroids". 3737 is likely to stay static for the foreseeable future.

Most of the Dutch loco's will look familiar to UK eyes. They either originated from the UK, where designed in the UK or where based on UK designs. It was only with the very last (3900/8700/6300) that some German influence came into the Dutch designs, although it was still "UK-based"
