It was easier to turn at Bescot than split Lizzie and tender to turn on our table at Tyseley.

In the interests of full disclosure, we have a change of motive power for the Tyseley to Carnforth diesel portion – 47500 will now take the train to Carnforth.

No wild theories please – 47500 was made available to us and was returning to Carnforth anyway.

PS – How great did 5043+6201 look together today!

Couple of pix of the move near Carnforth today:

This must be the first time ever that a Castle and Princess have worked in tandem?

    Fantastic!

It reminded me of a photo in a book I once had (long since gone to a charity shop I think) of 46210 piloted by 6834
on a West of England express in the 1950s when a few Stanier pacifics were loaned to the WR to replace 'King' class locos
that were taken out of service for some reason.

I don't know I could barely see the tender of 5043 let alone what was behind, all that steam blowing my side.........

Cheers for that Ben, was more suprised than anything, hope you have a good run tomorrow.

Does Lizzie ever get turned at Tyseley by splitting the loco and tender on the turntable or is it always a run out to the nearest triangle ?.

47500 passed Euxton Junction with the diesel leg at 09:02 with 10 coaches, so I guess that will make 12 for 6201 and 5043 to share.

Nice clip, though not as fast as I though, i was expecting a 60+ figure over the top with that power on tap.

Looks at least 60 to me. I don't think you'll get up Shap much faster than that with 12 coaches.

12 coaches past a fixed point in approx 9 secs is pretty close to 60 mph by my rough estimation.

Just received a call from Leander saying Lizzie has failed with a hot box, so Castle will be working back solo from Carlisle.

A real shame hope its not too serious can the castle handle 12 solo from Carlise I'm not familiar of the gradient profile there.
