Yes I am an active volunteer
I sent an email after seeing the information the Steve has posted here enquiring whether they can send me a copy of the flyer prior to this weekend. I received an email back within the hour saying that one would be posted to me straight away first class! Service or what!

Any news on likely engines to accompany 1450 next Wednesday? Hoping to head down there for the day (if for no other reason than it's a lot cheaper than the Gala days!)

Thursday - all bar 2 locos leave Minehead tender first, Friday its worse - all bar 1. What is the point of having a turntable if all you do is spin the loco through 360 degrees?

  8. So they can come back chimney-first :)

Looks like future special events might have all chimney-first (see news item on wsr.org.uk)

Think you miss my point but never mind ( they are arriving chimney first, spun 360, departing TENDER first). Good news about the triangle.

    Absolutely! Looks silly!

  11. Perhaps I should have added back to Minehead next time chimney-first, but never mind :)

Regardless of how daft it may seem, a loco being turned on the turntable (even spun 360) remains a huge and popular attraction for many of WSR visitors.

Yes, it is good news about the Triangle. Turning locos on the Triangle at Galas will be a popular thing for sure but the main reason for the push towards commissioning will be the turning of main line stock (eg HOBC, HST)- it provides an economic option for several operators which in turn raises useful revenue.

Did anyone actually go to this gala? Very few posts on here. I suspect many were at the Severn Valley (I was). Shame about the clash of dates.

The gala went very well operationally with no significant delays, and with the bonus of perfect weather most of the time. All ten locos performed well. Turning Britannia at both ends of the line was an added extra. I suspect that there were fewer enthusiasts than usual because of the unfortunate clash with the SVR and MHR. But there were lots of photographers and as usual there are loads of pictures and some videos at WSR :: West Somerset Railway :: The Minehead Branch - for photos go the gallery page and select the Spring Steam Gala.

yes, we went on friday, saturday and sunday. Film Footage in the pipe line, only got back around 1am this morning, just starting to look at the film now. I did bump into a lot of people, many were opting to do one day at one and then another. Would liked to have made SVR as well but we opted for WSR this time around. Did seem to be lack of line siders due to recent changes and the gala clashes, but I was banking on that
