Bluebell Northern Extension - so what's occurring then?

Dieses Thema im Forum 'Heritage Railways & Centres in the UK' wurde von domeyhead gestartet, 17 Februar 2012.

    Dear Sir,

I demand to know why National Preservation forum users are not being given regular, official updates on the spelling improvement classes that certain forum users should be attending. I have donated a large amount of my time to reading their posts and it appears that work on improving their spelling has come to a halt. Why is the NatPres Spelling Management Project Co-ordinator not providing regular, official updates on this?

I have heard from a NatPres member that these posters are now losing the donation of people's time to read their posts until regular updates are issued on the work to improve their spelling. The 'Seven Sheckels For Superior Spelling' fundraising campaign will receive no more donations from me until this issue is resolved.

    Harrump!

    Yours pompously,

    Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells

    Meanwhile, back at the plot...

The double donation dash currently stands at £34,722 raised in the last three days, plus gift aid. The fundraising director has amazingly wheedled another £10k out of some generous donors, so the new target by the end of the week is £50k, which will release £50k in matched funds, plus gift aid - the potential is to raise £125k this week towards the £800k funding gap.

So did deep anyone who wants to ride a train from EG to SP next year!

Correction - in the two minutes it took me to type this, it has gone up another £250 to £34,972...

    Dear Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells,

While I wholly agree with your sentiments regarding the dismal standards of spelling employed by many users of the modern methods of textual correspondence via electronic means, I feel that I must point out that the conventional spelling of the word 'shekel' is slightly different from your own 'sheckel'.

    ;-)

    Regards,
    Mick

    Hello Frazoulaswak,

Sorry my spelling isn’t always up to standard. If you have an issue with my spelling please pm me. I don't need you correcting me on here.

    Thanks

The URL of the 'double donation dash' appeal to which Tom refers in his last post is: https://www.justgiving.com/Bluebell-DDD

It is NOT the JustGiving URL which appears in Tom's signature.

Nice work. Just donating £20 now with £5 Gift Aid. Current total at £35,692. Looking down the list some one has donated £500 and another £250.

    Hello 73129,

I think that you need to read back through the recent posts in this thread if you want to work out who - if anyone - is having a go at you personally.

You seem not to have realised that in this instance I had only intended to give DisusedBranch a bit of a nudge - as indicated (I thought) by the Smiley at the end of my post - to point out that nobody is perfect.

Chill out a bit and engage self-deprecating sense of humour, 73129. I was only teasing and mildly taking the michael out of some of the more pompous posts on this thread. Don't take it so seriously!

Now at £39,564. If you look through completely, there have been quite a few £500 donations and one of £1250! According to Blue News, the initial £40k was put up by 6 donors; this has now been raised to a new target of £50k. We're at 79% of the revised target, having more or less already reached the initial target.

    URL for those interested: www.justgiving.com/Bluebell-DDD

Unlike the previous "Big Give" in December, this challenge allows offline donations (e.g. cheques etc) that reach the railway in the relevant week. These appear on the webpage as "offline donations" and are being updated daily.

Incidentally, with regard earlier speculation that "people have stopped donating to the exstension because there are no regular updates avalible". This challenge has been fairly well trailed online, so I suspect a lot of people planning to donate over the last month or two waited until this week. A similar thing happened before the Big Give in December - the Chit Chat Express funding more or less stopped, but then a lot of people who had been supporting the CCE waited to put money into the BigGive. Nothing to do with lack of updates I'm afraid, and everything to do with people having a certain budget they wish to donate, and choosing to do so in a way that maximises benefit to the railway.

What a superb response after only 1 1/2 days. My cheque was posted yesterday 2nd class, so there's a bit more to come. Wish I could have spared £500.

The following update has been added to the JustGiving DDD page:

"Due to the fantastic generosity of our donors we have surpassed our revised target of £50,000 for matching funding. Donations made now will therefore no longer be matched but they are equally welcome as we endeavour to raise the £800,000 we need to complete the Northern Extension Project. We have approached another sponsor to see if donations already made over the target can be matched and will hear on Friday. Further unmatched donations may be made here, or if you wish at www.justgiving.com/Lorna-Webb where you may support one of our volunteers who is running the London Marathon to raise funds for the Northern Extension Project."

The current total raised in sponsorship and donations is currently £108,394 plus Gift Aid where applicable. This makes a good start in raising the £800k total budgeted for completion of the Northern Extension Project. Although we have passed our DDD target the Bluebell Railway still need to continue to raise money for the project and if you intended to give to DDD but didn't before the target was met then please still give either via the JustGiving web site (the option to sponsor Lorne is cited above) or by cheque to the office at Sheffield Park (with Gift Aid form if applicable).

We will get to East Grinstead early next year.

The target has been met but has increased another £10,000 to bring it up to £60,705 so far. Thats incredible.
