Pretty gloomy outlook for steam then.

Seems the CVR are content to just rely on the yank locos for it's future steam operations. How about getting in some US freight stock and have it running along the Caudlon-Stoke line to complete the US theme intentions? :)

Definitely NOT my ideals for a NSR heritage site.

Frank, If you delete the first word under your signature you'd be right. Why put it on an MCR thread when its a CVR problem. There are threads already for CVR. I see you put it in Galas and events thats 4 places you've posted as I know to.

I think most people think/believe that both "companies" are so closely linked that they see them both as one.
The problems that the MCR have, have an effect on CVR and likewise any problems that CVR have will also effect MCR.

Latest from the CVR today is that to compensate for the lack of steam they are offering 50% off a future visit to those travelling over Easter.

Well what a difference a week makes - from near dehydration to frost-bite in 7 days. Today's continuation of sleeper replacement on the Stoke line was rather rudely interrupted by a blast of Arctic weather overnight. Not only were there car-high snowdrifts on the adjacent A52, but extreme gales too, which brought down two large trees just north of the tunnel at Leekbrook. This prevented the P/Way transport getting to site and so the job was caped about 9.00. This came as a relief to the local lads facing a day in Siberia, but a bit late for me who was already 75 mins into my trek and only 10 miles away by then. So in an act of selfless sacrifice I carried on, and ended up with an MPD lad doing a line inspection down south to Froghall looking for more storm damage, then north to Leekbrook to deal with the fallen trees. We were joined at mid-day by another p/way vol, who later went on to check the Cauldon branch whilst I set off back, dodging the drifts and abandonded cars.

I've been unable to find anything in the March minutes of Staffs County Council, or any where else out there on the web.

Whilst all Local Planning Authorities have embraced website technology for planning, listed building, tree preservation applications etc. commons registration applications are so rare that no-one thought of putting them on a similar system so the best way to find out is a pestering phone call to the folks at Stafford.

I see Adrian Shooter has joined the MCR ranks following his retirement from Chiltern Trains. Quite a big name to persuade to become involved.

    Well at least it's information...

All you people putting others down, young folk like me will take your places when your no longer around or able to your volunteering job's (whether it's CVR or any other Rly). Preservation need's young people to keep it all going, and that attitude is just wrong! Not surprised railway's are lacking young people!

"Here to cause crap" -_- Better? Pfft.

Perhaps you 'young ones' will learn to spell before you volunteer:tape:

-P/wayman and Sheff maybe you should think to your selfs.

-I agree with FJR8642 about the info been given.

-There is different railway enthusiasts, diesel, steam, electric.

-I my self is grateful for the info as I finally got to go on the Class 33 along the Cauldon line on the 1st April and then on the 104 unit today.

    - My son works on the SVR and they do not have the attitude that some of you seem to have, they respect that young people will be need in the near future.

Just find a railway that encourages and welcome youngsters.

Unfortunatly each railway does have the odd dinosour/know it all.....even some forums have been know to have them too....

Frank, I fail to see what this has to do with age? I asked a question which you chose not to answer.

Your multiple posts coincided with the announcement that the CVR would be unable to turn out a steam loco for the Cauldon branch w/e and given the past history I wondered what your motivation was? If it was to provide information, then it would have been better if you'd set it in context by explaining the lack of steam first, and the offer of 50% off for returning customers, as this would have been less potentially damaging to CVR's trade.

I'm not anti-youth, and I don't believe the CVR is either, in fact I'd love to see more youngsters on the railway. Of course it's difficult on Wednesdays as you're all at school or college, but I assume there's plenty of opportunities at the weekend.

Finally in some ways us oldies were lucky. When we were cutting our teeth on our heritage lines, there was no internet, and therefore anything we said didn't get broadcast beyond the mess room or pub, abd was therefore less likely to get misconstrued.

April showers were what we got today, heavy waterproof jackets one minute light jackets the next. Two groups today, one doing a linewalk from Apesford to Cheddleton the other carrying on with sleeper changing, drilling and putting in elastic spikes. The 2 groups met at Leekbrook for lunch, one wet with walking, one wet with sweat and it was a bit crowded in the Permequipe but at least that was dry. Took a couple of photos of the S160, with the ongoing work seems we're getting there.

The CVR is youth-friendly but as Sheff says the Wednesday gang would be awkward if at college/work. Feel free to volunteer at weekends or turn up in your school hols. I'm sure the oldies would appreciate someone else to do the heavy work!! And as the MCR is a separate thread from the CVR why ask questions on motive power? If the oldies seem 'mean' then please post in the CVR thread, and dont cry when you get the responses you do.

Sheff & P/way man know that I'd love to come down on a Wednesday & Sunday BUT sadly I'm not allowed, got a bit carried away with the old camera... :/ Woops. (And I have learnt from my actions etc etc etc... yet they don't see that down there, done some cracking photography around CVR/MCR too) And yeah was meant to be info!

Few photographs taken today with the progress of Endon Station on the Stoke Branch: 12/04/12 - a set on Flickr

Hopefully will see trains on there in the near future!

There's not a problem about taking photos on the p/w gang on a wednesday as long as you dont mess about. Obviously you've upset the gang when you've been. It is supposed to be work done for the railway, not a jolly. I've never had a problem on a wednesday.

Neil, I don't think it's that simple. I'm not aware of any problem as such between Frank and the p/way gang - I assume it's something at higher level that I'm certainly not privy to.
