I notice that the final leg of GB V is booked for 5043 solo now. Shame about the loss of the double header, but at least 5043 will have to work that bit harder up Sapperton :)

The Earl will have a heavy weekend all round: 9 over the Devon Banks on Saturday then probably 11 up to Filton and over Sapperton on Sunday.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

Detailed times for days 1 - 8 are now on UKsteam.info, and outline times for Day 9 are now on the RTC site:
    Bristol Temple Meads 12:55
    London Paddington 15:35

Although it's no great surprise, it's disappointing to see that the RTC tour description still says 70013 is going to Stranraer, 34046 is going to Penzance and 5029 is going to Gloucester and Paddington, even though these were replaced/rearranged several weeks ago. I guess everyone who needs to know has been informed another way.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

The first and last days of the Great Britain normally have an extra coach for the baggage, so it may well be 12 up Filton and Sapperton banks !

This is what ive been crying out for, the Earl alone up this stretch on sapperton, i know it cant compete to the devon banks but with extra load it can be sort of

2 hrs 40 mins Bristol to Paddington? I very much doubt it's routed via Sapperton.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

The times have been changed with an earlier start from Bristol. They will appear at uksteam.info shortly ! It is routed via Sapperton.

Also as expected, the times for day 2 have also been changed and the train now runs earlier to give more time for dinner in Fort William.

I see the Earl returns to Brum via the Chiltern line on Sunday evening. That will make a nice little post-script to the video ;-)

Three minutes at Rannoch instead of two hours - well done James for getting that ghost path surrendered - what a nonsense they are!

Presume it now passes the empty Alcan tanks at Tulloch (and arrives at the Fort around the same time as the sleeper leaves). Makes more sense at the end of the day. All we need now is some nice weather !

From what I can work out it passes the Alcan at Bridge of O? At least it would appear that way? Much more sensible timings now regardless.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

The arrival at Fort William may now be at a more sociable hour, but the return from Stranraer has been re-timed. 1712 from Stranraer (vs 1623) and, 90 minutes later than previously, 2232 at Glasgow (vs 2116). I think there's a typo in the UKsteam times - I suspect the arrival at Girvan should be 1830 (36 mins from Barrhill), rather than 1930. A 2 minute water stop would require the Ferrari pit crew, not Bells & Two Tones. :)

It's more often than not forecasted as a wet day and turns out fine or not too bad.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

Today was forecast as heavy thundery showers in Wakey, was sunny 90% of day and one light rain shower........having said that the wellies are packed, but not because its raining, more because last year I ended up to my knees in a bog (not a toilet.......).

Weather for Monday don't look too bad at least.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

4464 dawdled through Arlesey on time and in full sun. Hardly a challenging schedule though, e.g. 41 minutes pass to pass for the 31 miles between Stevenage and Huntingdon.
