We've got no problem with Frank. He was ok when he came down, but did not listen to what was asked of him by a director.

Bit complicated to be honest, I took some photos last year and I was not meant to but them on Flickr, but a few weeks after someone said I could upload them (Naming no names) then a few day's later I got called into the office and then it went down hill, because of this certain people. Done some silly stuff over the year's (Led into stuff), But I'm 17 now and I've learnt! I don't wanna be one of them "Teens" who stop's out on the streets at night's drinking alcohol. I'll be honest, I love Railway's, always have, not sure what I'd do with out them, not really got the best history with friends & school (got/still bullied alot from what I do in my spare time). Hey ho.

Well perhaps a written letter to said director may get you reinstated. It would be a shame to miss out, as the CVR really is a great place to be.

If it's any help I once ran foul of a BR Area Manager over access to a 3rd rail siding but a mutual friend suggested a letter of apology might help. I wrote and explained precisely what I had done - and why - and with whom - but made clear that if I had caused any problems it was accidental and that I apologised without reservation. Within a month received a phone call that confirmed my good name had been restored and that same AM later granted me a lineside permit to access all Merseyrail lines except dc third rail.

Anyone can make a mistake - it's a big man who stands up and apologises - and an even bigger one to respect the individual and accept the apology.

    Good luck.

I recall visiting Bury MPD in 1964 and asking at the office if I could go round. Back came the answer 'that's all right lad, just watch out for the third rail!'

    Different times.

That's very very true Fred! I'll figure a way, I hope. We do need some young persons in preservation to keep it going! Like me ;-D

One of life's lessons is that in some places it's better to ask permission before doing something and in others it's better to ask forgiveness afterwards and when you're new somewhere, getting it wrong can be difficult.

I should add the the pway team at the GWSR have a very nice photo blog which is updated weekly and sometimes more often.

    Flickr: GWR Permanent Way's Photostream

I think it does a really effective job of communicating one important aspect of what's going on at the railway. Something more railways should consider doing.

As regards asking permission for something - the answer can be confusing .. back in the 60 s on entering Holbeck depot one Sunday morning and asking the foreman for permission to go round the shed -the answer was ------ be where you want to go !--huh ,, so from that we deduced that it was in the affirmative , hence we went round --may be a northern dialect thing! , we were from Hampshire .......

Today I have phoned both Staffordshire Moorlands district council and Staffordshire County council, to try and find out about the village green application, by Ms Birks and neither seem to know anything about it, or who even, to talk to. They first put me through to planning, but they said not them and then to countryside and rights of way, but they said not them either, finally I was told to phone the Land Registry, but I don't think they'll be able to help.
    Councils eh?

11 man turnout today so we went to a 4 group formation with 2 of them doing line walks. The weather was not very good and while one group did the walk from Froghall to Oakamoor, our group did a section on the Cauldon Line starting at bridge 37. By bridge 38 a tree had come down across the line and our brave gang after almost sliding down the embankment, armed with 3 Bow saws attacked it. We started out cold and wet, then ended up hot, wet and winded. We then did a shortened line walk from bridge 37 to Caulden Lowe and back. A shortened day but a job well done, hope the other groups kept drier than we did. Just a couple of photos of the line before and after.
