Looking forward to this; the only place you can see two LSWR 0-4-4T's together.

Given that the SR also has several dual-braked Mark 1's, will it also be the only place you will see it on its own with loco hauled coaching stock? I thought I saw somewhere that the MHR was planning to use W24 with its Thumper.

Havenstret just doesn't seem the same place without Calbourne! It is the first time since the 1920s that there hasn't been a single 02 on the island.

When was Calbourne last away from the island - 1925 or so?

Not sure of the actual date but it was around that time. Of course bits of it have been on the mainland recently notably the boiler at LNWR Crewe.

W24 was shipped in 1925 and never returned (whole at least)

Swanage Railway will be its last point of call on the mainland for the foreseeable future.

Indeed, just been looking through D L Bradley's book and see W24 was landed in April 1925.

Was she in the first batch? i remember reading that the first engines were still in LSWR livery and that the Isle of Wight Central had indeed asked about hiring some O2's before the grouping
In a previous post i asked about the viability of duel braking the engine, but it seems that using a thumper is a good second bet, hadnt thought about that, anyway its good that she will get the chance to stretch her legs, is she expected to run the whole line when at the MHR?

No, the first batch was Nos.206 and 211 (Island numbers W19 and W20) in May 1923. These were transferred in LSWR livery and repainted Maunsell green in February 1924.

Not sure about what the MHR's plans are for how much of the line she will run, but at Swanage W24 will be operating over the full line, and will be the only place where W24 will be operating solo with normal passenger rolling stock.

The mid hants will be pairing it with a two car thumper unit, although im not sure about the length of line it is operating.

Don't forget to join us on Friday 25th May for our Calbourne on the freight train and M7 on blue timetable passenger duties.

This will be the first time that two LSWR 0-4-4Ts have worked together in preservation. We are trying to figure out a way of double heading the two locomotives at some point over the three days. We will keep you posted!

It is also planned to turn W24 half way through the day on Friday and possibly repeat this after 3 trips on both the Saturday and Sunday.

The M7 and 02 will operate throughout the weekend, with a third locomotive in traffic on the Sunday lunch trains!
