The K1 2005 was stopped on Friday 16th July 2010 with pin holes in a flue tube. Following discussion with West Coast Railway, the K1 is to return to Carnforth for remedial attention. A firm date for the return has not been finalised.

This is what I like about this website. You have a question and you can find out the answer straight away. Yet more bad news for steam this summer though, how many more engines are going to fail? It isn't a maintenance issue usually, just bad timing i guess! Thanks to all for keeping the interested public informed.

Do you mean "back" at Carnforth, for repairs (rather than "back" at Fort William, ready for duty)? UKSteam.info shows it moving from FW to Carnforth yesterday (2nd Aug), towed by a diesel.

The word from NELPG at Mallaig today is that she will be the subject of some fairly heavy work at Carnforth, probably extending over the winter, as the failure is of new material which just should not have happened and rather than rush her back into service and run the risk of a further failure in service this season.

They are enjoying having a three cylinder machine on the WHL but the stay is still only scheduled for this week operationally, with 45407 due up here shortly - don't know if 45231 will be staying longer - watch this space

45407 arrives at FW, from York, on Mon evening, 09/08; 61994 returns to Thornton on Thurs 22/07, prior to its SRPS Alloa job, on Sun 22/08. 45407 and 45231 will share the Jacobite roster, from thereon.

Good news indeed - it'll be nice to see the K1 back out. I've only seen her a couple of times since I was on the 3 Dales railtour in 2007 :(

Would that be a light run to Hellifield or loaded round the full circuit?

Will the engine have to have a milage accumilation run before being allowed out fully, as in have to bed in on the NYMR or will it be sent straight to Scotland? I would think as with previous times it goes to NYMR to run in before the turns in Scotland, then will spend the season of 2013 up there.

I gather its going straight to Scotland then? All being well with the test run and final work. Think thats great news as it will be earning for NELPG who I reckon are one of the best locomotive groups out there. Good to see my favourite steam engine back....

Though be curious if anyone has a photograph of it in green as mentioned previously recently...

Link doesn't seem to be working - actually just checked neither does the NELPG site at the moment!

Can anyone confirm if the test run still on as per above times please?

Also has the engine been repainted yet?

    Thanks
