Furness Railway Number 20 will be paying a return visit the Midland Railway - Butterley over the May Bank Holiday Weekend on Saturday May 5th until Monday 7th May.

The locomotive will be running with the railways vintage set of coaches, which include vehicles dating back to the 1800's.

Saturday 5th is likely to see 20 out on her own with the vintage set. However a demonstration goods train will also be run using 1163 "Whitehead"

Sunday 6th and Monday 7th will see a two train passenger service in operation, along with an additional demonstration goods train, again hauled by 1163 "Whitehead."

It is unknown at the moment what the motive power for the second passenger train will be, however if it is steam, it is likely to be BR Standard Class 5MT - 73129. I will update as soon as I know.

We've now confirmed that steam will be hauling the second passenger train on Sunday 6th and Monday 7th May. This is likely to be 73129.

Timetable is currently being written, I will post here as soon as I have it.

Pity it clashes with the KESR Gala as I only have one day free over the weekend but FR 20 on vintage stock is very tempting indeed.

Just had a quick look at the timetable for the Monday and noticed a couple of goods timed to depart Swanwick at the same time as the vintage train and then pass Butterley at the same time as the vintage train arrives. Is that section double track or is it a misprint?

    Hello,

    Its intentional for the public.
The passenger train will depart slightly later in reality (about 6 minutes or so), but if people are already on the train at the departure time it's better for station staff/guards. It saves people wandering up to the train at the last minute!

    Hope this helps

    Paul

For those who are interested, I've just finished off a basic website. It also has the Working Timetables as well, which may be of interest to some people.

    It is available here.

You might get lucky on the 13:50 departure from Butterley on Sunday, but I can't see it happening otherwise!

73129 is facing West, towards Hammersmith, and 1163 and 20 are facing East, towards Ironville. Hope this helps!

Thanks. Sales stand cancelled due to a waterlogged venue so will come to MRC tomorrow and trying to plan day round required photographs and sound recordings as well as getting a ride.

Excellent. Should be a good day I hope! Plenty of steam action tomorrow.

I'll be Guarding the goods, do say hello if you can.

An excellent day and even the signalling problems provided added interest with the use of pilot men. We may have chatted at Swanwick when the Kirtley was "steamed up." I was the chap with the golden labrador in tow.
