Has anyone got an ark for sale? 9 of us turned out today, 3 did the linewalk on the Cauldon line and looking at some photos they took up there it was horrendous. Well done lads the love of the railway eh!. The rest of us were at Cheddleton wading in the lake that used to be the yard. We were trying to get the no.2 permequipe into the engine shed so work could start to bring it back in service. Needless to say it got stuck if got stuck in the deepest water and we only got it out with the help of a forklift truck and 5 of us pushing. Then I got the news that a group of apprentices were coming down with an instructor to train on removing and fitting of Pandrol clips, the fitting and removal of the clamping system on flat bottomed rail and the same with plastic ferrules in Bullhead chairs. Could I help out ? We split the lads into 2 groups of 6 and showed them the correct proceedure for doing the jobs and they turned out to be quick learners and a grand bunch of youngsters, rain pouring down no moans just did as they were told, it should be a good outlook for the future of the rail industry if these lads were a typical sample. Just a couple of photos of the permequipe in the water and a shot of the S160 with stainless steel numbers on the cabside.

Well Jeff - looks like the 'B' team were never far from shelter today then ;) What's happening in Photo 3 - you trying to mate them? More chance with pandas mate.

As for the 'A' team's track inspection walk today........ Set off from Cauldon Lowe in typical drought conditions, 4 degC and the drought had white bits in it. The wind was driving it into us on the embankments and the trackbed was droughted inches deep in places. After 4 hours our boots and underdraggers were full of drought too and temperature had soared to a massive 5 degC !!! Too cold and wet to stop long enough for our snap too - managed a lid of tea and half a sarnie crouched behind a bridge abutment but onset of hypothermia meant we had to crack on :(

Hey Iain, I will certainly conceed that you are the A team THIS WEEK I would not have managed to complete the walk in those conditions all credit to the team. I think you deserve 100% pay increase for doing it. Hoped you've all dried out now, no chills, we need you on parade next Wednesday to do it all again.

Another day yet more sleeper changing at Leekbrook, don't you just love elastic spikes. But at last we can see the end at Leekbrook, so far 152 sleepers have been hand changed and there are only 17 more to go. Not bad for about a 1/4 of a mile of track eh. Then concrete sleepers to Wall Grange and another 1/4 mile of guess what, elastic spikes. Hopefully we will have some mechanical help with them.
Some photos of the S160, plus the last parts to be machined in the lathe for the pistons.

Here's a one minute montage: S160 5197 at North Norfolk Railway's 2006 autumn steam gala.

This being the sister engine to the S160 6046 which is currently undergoing overhaul.

Is that anywhere near the Caldon Canal? ;) To be fair, I in turn still struggle with Cauldon Low and Cauldon Lowe.

I 'phoned Michael Murphy today to ask what is going on with the Endon village green application. He advised me that no decision has been made and there is no timescale for one either. Apparently consultations are ongoing with interested parties.

    Best wishes,
    Nigel

I see the new 6046 was out running on test yesterday. So it won't be long before the CVR returns to Disneyland. :)
