Thanks for the link regarding all the different forms of Southern green, never realised just how complex it all got. Must agree though that hopefully not too far off in the distant future a BR green Nelson and Schools class will be paired together on the Mid-Hants which will definitely look good with their coaching stock.

It never carried any sort of BR livery in service.

On one side only IIRC and then only briefly.

Yes that would be with the help of a certain Mr. Nula Seer if I remember well. Caused a lot of froth from the anti corrosion police

You do remember correctly. I have a photo somewhere on my hard drive a kindly soul sent me when I was finding out more about the story. She does look the business in black though, it must be said...

And yes, apparently some people went absolutely bananas over it, to the extent of posting their ripped up SVR membership cards to Bewdley HQ. How idiotic they felt when they realised they'd been had has, unfortunately, not been recorded for posterity.

It was meant as a tongue in cheek remark. The ripped up SVR memberships slips were from reading the SVR diaries from the green in the blood GWR men.

It was hilarious. There was plenty of froth from the Bulleid fundamentalists when we did a photo report on 34081 emerging as a rebuild but that was nothing compared to the outrage of the Green With Rivets brigade when CoT was seen in black. :)

Perfectly balanced by the mock 'outrage' from the pseudonym of a certain Worthrail gentleman at the defiling of the magnificence of LNWR blackberry black by painting a GWR loco in it...

I remember it well! Having just walked past City of Truro I was asked what I thought of the new livery, I hadn't even noticed! I had to go back for a better look, thankfully I had walked down the green side. I was stunned when I looked at the other side, it wasn't as bad as I thought.

Even when it became obvious that it was an April fool joke, a good number of the GWR purists still didn't see the funny side. To them it was a criminal act. Very sad to have such a narrow view of life.

Is this a fact, or are you just guessing?

Given there's a new A1 rolling around the UK I think we can say nothing is certain in life..

    But probably relates to probability...
I'll say I like my odds... at least for more years than some who may not live to see it next time round.
Which is why I'm sure many would like to see it.

No I don't, but I'm interested to know if this is likely to be its final years of operation, so that if it is I can get my arse down to the MHR to ride behind it.

Fair enough. I suspect a question aimed at our NRM friends on here may get you the info you need.

According to UK Steam Info the boiler ticket expires in 2015( I know there is no such thing as 10 year ticket).
