That's a beautiful part of the world, even the drive down from Durban to the Cape by road is a joy..................

Saw the Museum at George last weekend, it is a fantastic museum, however the once operational fleet stored a few miles towards mossel bay will need further work before they can run again... They are looking a bit unloved since I last saw them in 2009 And looks as though even the operational fleet have had bits removed.

The line to knysna is much more scenic than mossel bay... But the line is world class !

Unfortunately, the "poll" halfway down the page appears now to have changed to address the - clearly more important - issue of derelict properties in George ... and well before many of us, who have journeyed many time to Africa merely to travel on the Garden Route line, had the opportunity to express our concern.

Meanwhile the SA version of SUSTRANS appears intent on wreaking its havoc on the future of still viable rail routes, very much in the same way as it has in the UK! See: George Herald | Puffing some life into Choo-Tjoe talks and then George Herald | Decision on Choo-Tjoe overdue. These two items appear to be the sum total of interest shown locally in recent months. Very, very sad indeed!
