    It will depend on funding if 850 were to get another ticket, the boiler was extensivly rebuilt so shouldnt need much work, but i would imagine that a lot of work will be needed on the mechanical side ,there was i believe a few issues that had to be sorted out at Ropley when she first arrived ,so i would imagine if she were to be overhauled then they would want to ensure that everything was done
    I dont know how much nellie would get used because with the black 5, 76017, 34007 and now 926 to choose from will they want to overhaul 850 plus by the time the ticket is up the 75xxx should be ready and 34105 not far off

    There's always another option to consider. Maybe the NRM doesn't want to have 850 overhaul again and would like to display 850 at York?

    You don't need an excuse, this is a magnificent engine regardless of livery.
    I'll guess that it is the most powerful 4-6-0 regularly in use on a preserved line currently... Making it also the cheapest to ride behind regularly. (5029, 5043, 46115 not exactly predictable preserved line regulars).

    BR green would be nice, but not before a gathering of 777, 925 and 850 in southern green.
    It is regularly in use, and I stand by what I say... catch it while you can, unless your brand of tea leaves guarantees a different vision of the future ?

    We've gone for the 1938 livery, which meant making a few changes to the engine as received from York. Formerly she carried post war malachite green with Sunshine lettering, yellow lining, green smoke deflectors, black steps, and a black cab front.

    The changes are:

    White Lining
    Green Cylinders
    Black Smoke Deflectors
    Green Cab Front
    Green Steps and expansion joint covers (lined)
    Green Bogie Splashers

    and the best bit....

    Gilt (Gold Leaf) letters & numerals, un-shaded

    Gerald Whittaker did the lettering today, and it looks fantastic. Pictures will appear soon on the "World Famous" Cheltenham Blog on watercressline.co.uk.

    Beautiful! A large pat on the back to all involved with 925's return to steam.
    I think the SR livery suits them much better than the BR livery carried by 30926 (and I am a BR livery fan).

    And I can confirm the same as well. Saw the tender first of all heading north up the A34 around 13:00-13:10 with the loco around 4/5 miles behind.

    Have to say, although it was a quick glimpse (and no I wasn't driving btw!) both loco & tender looked stunning in the sunshine.

    Well done to Smiffy, Dad and the rest of the team that have been involved!

    What do you think of the livery? and what is your prefered livery ,I must say i didnt know that there were so many veriations of Southern railway livery ,I always thought that Malachite was always lined with yellow, so ive learned somthing there, and i had never heard of Parson's green either
