I see the times are up for this and obviously no electric loco to whirl to and from Preston in a reasonable time. Early start and VERY late back compared to estimated time. What's up with being able to source an electric?

And to add to my own post. What do all the goings on this week end mean for this run. We will wait and see of course. I'm sure 60163 has got the best possible spark arrestor.

My sympathies to those coming from the south; however times look good for those of us joining/leaving at Preston; and there seems to be very little in the way of planned waits in loops to fit in with other traffic. Fingers crossed for some good running.

I've just received my tickets & timings; the latter are now different. Off Euston at 0658, Class 90 hauled to Crewe, then Tornado departs Crewe at 1003. Preston departure is 1145, arr Carlisle 1352. Departure Carlisle is 1545, arriving Preston 1928, thence modern traction back to the 'smoke', arrival there is 2330 <ouch>

So, more steam for the southern contingent, but a late return home - swings & roundabouts...

Not got mine yet but despite late arrival back, I'm at Watford not London, it's a great improvement.

Hey, we've all done it at some time :)

Anyway, I see that the revised times are now up on UK Steam t0531a.htm - it still lists diesel traction from Euston, so it'll be interesting to see what actually hooks on for the run to Crewe.

Fingers crossed for a great day out though.

Any news on whether a diesel will be involved tomorrow?
Just watching the local BBC North West news suggests a rather wet day!!

Its peeing down now - but that's never stopped STNs being behind the times!

Isn't it a good idea on tours (or parts of tours) that are not traction specific (ie your there for the steam or diesel loco) that Electric traction is insisted on on the WCML south of Rugby to aid pathing and sociable timings ?.

Some might say some Diesel can go just as fast or almost as fast as Electric, but it's the extra horsepower Electrics have on accelerating and higher speeds uphill that make the difference.

60163 races past rainy Hest Bank at 1233, not stopping at Carnforth for diesel.

    Cheers
