Re: Severe Incident with 70013 today

The trouble with eye witness reports is that they can vary so much from what happened. I witnessed a crash at the Biggin Hill airshow back in 1980 and was quite clear in my own mind what I saw and what happened. Later news reports featured other eye witnesses whose statements varied with each other and varied with my version of events - yet each one of us was convinced our version was correct. It's a well known phenomenon. Thus when I see reports of people jumping from a loco with their hair on fire, I ask myself is this really what happened or what the eye witness thought had happened.

A bit more info of exactly what happened is posted "elsewhere". With a bit of a dig at NP.

Have to say there are some very valid points made there.

I think other people have beat me to it, just being cautious not sure if I am allowed to link or quote posts off NP's main rival.

I'd suggest that the telling of news and discussion on this Forum is no different from mess room, lineside or pub chat. Some will be a load of rubbish, opinionated, partisan or whatever. Others will provide accurate and substantiated fact. I don't see any problem with that. There is nobody out there censoring the mess rooms, lineside and pubs so why should similar postings on Nat Pres be censored?.

IE is suddenly unable to find The Works. Anyone else had this problem?

Yes, seems to thrown it's toys out of the pram. Safari on my iPad says cannot open the page, the server cannot be found.
It was working earlier. Perhaps they have got wind about their posts being mentioned on here.

I wouldn't say it's a dig at Nat Press more an appeal for common sense in the matter... idle speculation on what MIGHT have happened isn't doing anyone any good

"The Works" is working fine for me this morning, I've just been there (I view every day as I do here). It's reported that the two lads who were injured are recovering nicely at home. Good, I'm pleased to hear that.

    Completely correct!
The works is working fine for me and the post put there only says what others have also said on here...

I'd say the difference is that what you say in a pub etc is only heard by the people immediately around you and once said is gone - can't be recovered (unless someone recorded it, which is an entirely different matter). Whereas what you write on a forum is preserved, possibly for ever; is open to anyone, even those not originally "present"; and depending on the security settings of the forum, (not just now but at any point in the future), can be accessed by anyone with a search engine. Moreover, when you are talking face to face in a pub etc, you have a high degree of certainty about who you are talking to and their identity,. Whereas on a forum you have no idea how many people are "listening in"; and even of people who have an account on a private forum, you don't really have any certainty who they are. So while I am not advocating limiting free speech, I think it is prudent to be a bit more circumspect what you say on a forum.

Very good post and exactly the point - I suspect many forum owners might feel they should add this post to the rules! Forums may take the style of mess room gossip but they are very, very different - including legally!

So in the light of the report perhaps all those who made wild and unfounded accusations would now like to apologise..:flypig:
