I have added some new photos given to me by Alan Costello, including Gresleys rebuilt W1 60700, (sadly not a good photo, but the only pic i have of this loco)

I know very little about the W1 post rebuild, by then had it basically become an A4 with an extra set of wheels ?.

No it was pretty unique.......the boiler If I remember correctly was a one off and resulted in it's early withdrawal because the boiler could not be swapped resulting in a longer period out of traffic.

 

Here's all you need to know (hopefully) ..... The Gresley W1 4-6-4 "Hush-Hush" Locomotive

In some ways when rebuilt it was nearer to a latter day A1 in its proportions and TE.

 

I understand it was also popular with the crews............in it's rebuilt state that is....

 

The 60700's tender still survives (it now belongs to 60009).
