Did I read somewhere (can't find it on the bookshelf) that the original intention was to name 71000 "Prince Charles" but permission was refused by the Palace?

Possibly in view of the disaster to his sister, Princess Anne!

There is plenty of main line work scheduled for 2012 for which no loco has yet been allocated, so let's hope that 2012 will see a bit more of 71000 on the main line compared with 2011. In 2011 the two "Brits" have attracted a good few headlines, and while they have unquestionably performed well, 71000 can easily out-perform them. I have never yet managed a main line run behind this engine, (only a trip on the WSR, where Kentsford bank was dismissed with contemptuous ease) but the performances I have read about make me very keen to rectify this omission.

I see from the "loco movements" section of David Randles' excellent Main line steam website that 71000 ran with support coach from Bury to Eastleigh today. This presumably means the "Duke" will be returning the main line soon. Great to see this loco back in action.

Presumably this Wednesday's Poole - Windsor charter with TBEL? Will try and see it at Eastleigh tonight at around 23:15.

Yes - it was originally down as 4464 or 70000, but the website has been updated to indicate that 71000 will be the motive power on Wednesday.

I understand 4464 is having its spark arrestor checked (after the lineside fires on the Cathedrals Explorer) and 70000 is on the CathEx from Alresford to Ely on Thursday. The Duke is also rostered on the 20th June run to Bristol (from Poole). She then moves over to Bristol for the Torbay Express runs.
