Have read on a couple of gen forums that 70013 failed an FTR exam yesterday, so be diesel hauled by 2x WCRC 47s. Can anyone confirm this?

Not sure, you would think WCRC would send down a 37 or similar to try and take her to RF. 70013 was one of the first locomotives to be confirmed, and would be a huge loss.

Perhaps they could and they can't send 70000 as a replacement as she's down for the Alresford-Ely trip on Friday. A big blow to the passengers with 70013 unable to make the tour.

This would be dependent, I would think, on whether the NRM would be willing to pay for this and if NR could path it at such short notice. One thing is for sure is that the financial obligation does not lie with WCRC.

I understand 70013 suffered with leaking tubes... Not good!!

If it is leaking tubes (and I do stress if) it depends on the type of leak. If the tubes are leaking at the tube plate then it may only be a case of expanding. Should the tubes have sprung leaks along their length then it is a replacement job.

I would suggest we await formal confirmation of the problem before speculating further.

Got a good view of an empty Harringworth Viaduct in sun at 70013's booked passing time. Such is the "joy" of our hobby. Lots of locals were out, including a coach tour that had stopped to give the passengers a view of a steam engine. Lots of sad faces when they heard the news. Let's hope Ollie's troubles are short lived and the loco is soon back in fighting trim.

Sounds like it. A friend of a friend was on the 5th May trip and said that 70013 was not in the best of health with 34067 doing most of the work. It is also reported in the latest issue of Heritage Railway about the problems of the 5th May trip.

Feel so sorry for all those booked to ride as ever when one fails. We got to the Soar valley before getting the gen from this forum (thanks posters).
I guess it was always doomed to failure - an engine named "Oliver Cromwell" booked to operate a train during the reigning monarch's Diamond Jubilee ;)
