34067 is down for Three Bridges to Weymouth on the 30/6 ( 70013 is down for the return). So might be able to do the first one on the 1/7 if 34046 is not available?

70000 is a possibility when not being used on the Torbays.

Would you really want to man the operation of moving 5080 out of that museum, taking it to Tyseley, swapping it's wheels, moving it back to buckinghamshire, and placing it back all for that?
That'd be a lot of work for a tyred wheel set and a lot of money.

Good news. I understand that the new tyres have landed in the UK, or are at least very close to be. We hope the loco will be ready at the tail end of the summer, and we are working closely with our friends at TLW to get the loco back to full health.

Keep checking our website and/or facebook pages for updates.

I would like to make it clear that the Support Crew have not in any way had a "fall out" with Locomotive Services Ltd. It does not say this anywhere in the report. We are still very much involved with the locomotive and look forward to its return.

The wheels, and to a much greater extent the axle boxes, are not as interchangeable as one might think. To my knowledge, the wheels pretty much stayed with the frames throughout the loco's life.

BEFORE someone sends a list of times that it did happen, I am talking generally!

We would like to leave 5080 exactly where it is! It's well looked after and is quite happy.

7029's wheels are going back into the frames in the near future.

Are there any plans for 5080? (as opposed to aspirations that is!)

"Due to continuing irreconcilable differences between the support crew and the General Manager of Locomotive Services Ltd, so and so have resigned"
That is what it says in black and white. Thanks for putting the record straight.

Like I have said, it doesn't say in that report that the Support Crew have fallen out with LSL.

Anyway, the good news is that 29's tyres are on their way.

That is indeed good news, Ben. So we should look forward to seeing Nunney around September time, I guess. Just out of interest (= nosiness!), where did the tyres come from in the end?

    From the Nunney Castle website

"Whilst waiting for delivery and fitment of 5029's new tyres it was decided that we should take this time to access any parts of the locomotive that could benefit from refurbishment or renewal. Most of this work focuses on the bearings and hornguides, which will all be refurbished. Other work includes an overhaul of the valves. The 5029 Support Group are working closely with Tyseley Locomotive Works and Locomotive Services Ltd to get this work done as quickly and professionally as possible. Our current target for completion is mid October"

just seen this posted on SVRlive.
I would like to inform members, working members and shareholders that there have been some tentative discussions with Richard Corser and Peter Greenwood, representatives of 5029. The discussions concern the possibility of Nunney Castle having a home at the SVR, offering the possibility of operation on the SVR and occasional mainline trips.
These discussions are at an early exploratory stage and further announcements will be made as negotiations progress.

Sounds like a good idea in theory, 5029 still availible for mainline trips when requested and the SVR gains another operational loco it badly needs at other times.

This is not an immenent move. Nunney has no wheels for the moment. At the earliest, she could arrive in time for Santas.
Bear in mind the SVR should gain 4 locos in the next 6 weeks.

Bearing in mind that the statement states that negotiations are at a very early stage it's wise to not get too excited just yet. On a personal level, I'd love to have the Castle resident on the valley. It'd look fantastic on the front on the Limited on a regular basis.

One thought, on it's last visit to the valley Nunney did not have an operational steam heat system, meaning that some of the services it ran had to have the Mickey attached to the back to warm the passengers. I was told that it was removed to accomodate air braking. Is this still the case? This could be something of an issue on winter services (eg, Santa's)

Not sure where you heard that from, the Castle is fitted with steam heat. However, like the Kings, it only has a steam heat pipe on the tender, so can only provide steam heat in one direction.

Ah, thanks for the clarification Ben. Classic example of the inaccuracies of mess room gossip!

I think you will find that most GWR tender engines that were expected to haul passenger trains only had steam heat on the rear. Freight engines often did not have steam heat fitted at all unless expected to be used for bannana traffic. At places usch as Didcot it is soemthing we have to think about, as a working museum do we fit steam heat to engines that never had it and do we fit it to the front of tender engines? the answer depends on personal opinion, but I know for many places steam heat is required at both ends of the loco.

I think the only ex GWR tender locos to be fitted with steam heat at both ends whilst in "normal service" were the Collett 22/32xx 0-6-0's.

During winter, and when operating on one heritage railway, 6024 has steam heating available at the front buffer beam.
