Running slowly through Chiswick at 09:25 - around 14 minutes later than I expected. Good to see the sun!

She was 20 minutes late at Staines and Ascot, after a delay with the diesel this morning causing a 15 late departure. Looked beautiful in the first sunshine for what seems like weeks!

Ah diesels! Useless things - scrap the lot of them! : - )

And what's the "operational reason" for sticking one on the back today anyway? Don't tell me the poor darlings on the VSOE need train heating!

 

No, but it did need the diesel to hail the ECS into Victoria.

 

Sun still shining at Crofton, 35028 working away well with no help from the back that I could tell:

 

Still does not excuse leaving it on there though. There again I suppose that type of punter doesn't really care.

 

It wasn't pushing, so its effect was just to raise the train weight to 604 tons and make Clan Line have to work a bit harder - and we all like to see our loco's working hard, don't we!

Plus, it was a chilly night, 9C when the train left Victoria, so I suspect that some heat on the train would have been very welcome!

 

I thought the VSOE had it's own generator car anyway.
