This coming weekend (16-17th June) is the LAST CHANCE to travel behind the GWR Pannier 6430 on Epping Ongar Railway (Epping Ongar Railway - Home)... as it will be heading for pastures new.... it's a rare opportunity to travel behind a Pannier on former LU metals.... the Pannier will be in steam and running hourly between Ongar and North Weald on both Saturday and Sunday.

Further details are on our website, where you can also purchase your discounted ticket online (including both steam, diesel and heritage bus running every 30 mins from the front door of Epping Underground Station). All tickets are "rover" tickets allowing complete flexibility to shape your day as you wish.

We look forward to welcoming you down to London's Local Line (and the longest in Essex!).

    Simon, EOR

    Dear Epping Ongar Railway,

Please stop enticing me to use my Credit Card.

    Yours Sincerely,

(Sorry Jamie but....) EOR are also pleased to be offering footplate rides this coming weekend . These are available for either the steam engine (rostered to be Pannier 6430) or Class 31 (31438) working on the Ongar-North Weald service or the Coopersale service (on-board Class 37 D6729 or Class 03 03170).

Advanced booking is strongly advised, as this is the FIRST opportunity to experience steam footplate rides on EOR. Footplate rides are for one single journey (on the Ongar-North Weald section) or “round trip” for the Coopersale Shuttle, priced at £10 for diesel and £20 for steam.

Footplate rides are available to those over 18 and will be for a specific departure, so are not transferable. You will need to report to the Booking Office of the departure station 10 mins before the train is scheduled to depart. Late arrivals will not be able to be accommodated, and any spare or not taken up places will be available on a first-come-first served basis (reporting to the ticket office of the departure station). You will also need a valid travel ticket.

You can book your footplate ride by phone, please call 01277 365200 for further details.

These offer an ideal gift for Father’s Day, and you get to experience a ride “up front” on one of our locomotives, offering an unparalleled view of the line and our gradients. Book early to avoid disappointing your Dad!

Got to visit last weekend, will post pictures shortly... the Pannier really looks at home at Epping, complete with the GW brown/cream coach at the head of the stock.
One of the things I liked a lot about Epping/Ongar is some of the LUL infrastructure inplace along the line / signalling.. I hope some of this is retained as the railway heads more retro as it makes EOR very unique to other preserved lines.

I hope it goes without saying, but just a note to say that the cab of the steam loco is a working environment, so we would advise participants to wear suitable clothing and shoes.) We look forward to welcoming you on-board...

I take it when you say "pastures new" that you are referring to 6430 going back to Llangollen??

Does anyone know how 6430's overhaul is going/how long it will be out for?
