When that's finally ready it will be the biggest anticlimax with all the false starts and setbacks.

I wonder if 45305 will actually do any Scarborough flyers (12 coaches usually) it took 11 this Saturday on the Settle & Carlisle route

I honestly hope not, with the traffic density, Guide bridge to Huddersfield etc, the train needs to be able to maintain a reasonable pace, and if the popularity of the Flyers last year is anything to go by, most will be full so 12 coaches are required.

Have they specifically said, or is it just that it says they are using a loco from the Crewe Pool and it happens to be in the pool?

To quote (looks like Crewe Pool)

The steam locomotives to be used on this day trip come from the following pool:
No. 46233 “Duchess of Sutherland” Princess Coronation Class ‘Pacific’ 4-6-2 built by the LMSR at Crewe in 1938, for use on express passenger trains now in B.R.Green livery. No. 45305 Black ‘5’ 4-6-0, built for the LMSR by Armstrong-Whitworth of Newcastle-on-Tyne in 1936, a ‘mixed traffic’ locomotive for use on passenger and freight trains. No. 70013 “Oliver Cromwell” Britannia class ‘Pacific’ 4-6-2, built at Crewe in 1951 to British Railways ‘standard’ design, and used on express passenger trains in East Anglia.

She's been put down, but it's doubtful that they will use her on all if any of the tours, last year 45305 did the cumbrian mountain express a few times in place of cromwell and the mersey moorlanders for Compass tours.
This year the welsh mountaineer is pencilled down for 48151 and 45305 so they have got her down for quite a bit!

I'm questioning of what 5305 shall pull and even where she will be located(Crewe or Carnforth). Mersey Moorlanders and Welsh Mountaineers are both steam powered out of Preston. We shall just have to see how the year unfolds itself into the busy summer season. Anything can happen.

Add 60009 Union of South Africa to the mix.

To bring this up to date as only 4 weeks to go, anyone any idea why the 31st August now shows as provisional on uksteam?

45305 is a great engine, I was on the CME on the 27th of August last year, she did great up Shap and Ais Gill with 12 on easily.

Any news on loco allocations on the Flyer's and the other trips that start from Crewe?

Well I believe that it's not going to be 60009 on the flyers this year because of weight restrictions,
so either the Duchess, black 5 or Cromwell (if it's at crewe)
Did I read somewhere that the duchess is out of gauge for part of the NWCE route?

    3 locos to be used.

    70013 can do all three.
46233 cannot do the North Wales Coast.
    60009 cannot do the Flyer.

    I am waiting for allocations before I book.Ideally I would like : 46233 on the Flyer, 60009 on the CME and 70013 NWCE, on either 3rd - 5th August or 10th - 12 August.

So you can't use a duchess or an A4 on their 'native' routes but they can run on each others1

With regard the Flyer the bridge across the Ouse at York is being repaired/to be repaired and there is a weight restriction until this work is complete and this means the A4 is banned at present. This was discussed in another thread.
