VT Scarborough Flyer with 46233 - 30/6/2012

Sold out according to the VT website. Sutherland hauls entire outward journey, and as far as Derby on the return (and then moves with support coach back to Butterley I guess?)

More interestingly though, 46233 is scheduled to arrive in York at exactly the same time as the "estimated" timings on the SD website for 60163 from Kings X to Durham.............and depart south at the same time as well.

 

This should make for interesting antics at Colton Junction for the linesider photographers, I assume 46233 will be on the Midland and 60163 on the Northern Eastern line. Looks like a 200 yard dash may be in order!
For paraffin can followers (count me in) there are also 2 return adexes, 2Xcl37's going to Scarborough and a Statesman going to Durham I think. Anyone who can help with Colton passing times in both directions, it would be appreciated. See you all there Saturday.

Steam tours between Doncaster and York are sometimes routed via Church Fenton (e.g. GB5), so quite a long stretch of parallel running is possible - in theory, all the way from Church Fenton to York. In real life, however, it's highly unlikely to work out!

 

I woulden't get too excited, the chances of paralell running in the event are very small, anyone who's been the GCR will tell you getting a pass in exactly the right place, despite what the timetable says, is easier said than done.

Still best to be ready as you may just get lucky.

 

Maybe we should wait for the "actual" timings for 60163 before we start getting too excited. Also, don't forget that 6233 will probably use platform 5 as it's going to Scarborough and 60163 will have to use platform 11 if it's taking water, so the two trains have to "swap sides" between Colton Jn and York which may rule out much parallel running (even if the arrival times are the same)

 

According to the Steam Dreams website ( booking page) arrival at York is 13:05( Approx timing was 13:00)

Ticket arrived today(26/6) arrive York Platform 11 13:03.

 

Thanks for the diesel times Mark, I wasn't aware of the York - Bath adex. The Statesman site carries an apology to customers saying due to Network Rail they won't get times until Friday! Wonderful if you're booked on it.

Tornado arrives York 13.03, Duchess arrives 13.00 and departs 13.06 . On the return journey they are a whopping 10 minutes apart!

 

The viewing gallery at the NRM might not be a bad place to be with 60163 and 46233 departing 1 minute apart.

 

Looking at the times, they pass somewhere between Church Fenton and Colton Junction. I would have thought 46233 will continue on the CF line and slow / stop for Colton with 60163 moving over at CF to the Leeds line and therefore passing near the Jnc. If they both run to time that is... I can see Colton being very busy this Saturday....

After leaving the BH water stop it looked in serious trouble. Regulator off and coasting to a stop on open track. Got away extremely slowly and gingerly. Did it get very far?

 

It passed us at Colton, and looked / sounded fine...
