I think that squeak you are referring to is due to resonance in the exhaust, Halls starting heavy freights used to do it a lot when the driver was trying to get on the move without slipping.

Thank you for the kind comment - it really was the 'best' of a bad bunch - Iver is not the most photogenic or best location, I could have gone on the other platform, but then you run the risk of either a stopper or semi fast getting in the way, so I 'hedged' my bets, only for them to be ruined my some 'mad' woman as can be seen here!

No I do not currently volunteer
I don't see a 'mad' woman, only one with child on right arm waving and getting acknowledgment from the driver..

Thats a really good video actually; and the woman was responding to the crewmans waving so at least she showed some interest. Great stuff and a 'like'

OK maybe I should have worded things a bit better and said maddening as opposed to mad!

As neither of you were there, you don't know how maddening she was - like a cat on a hot tin roof - wouldn't stand still, she knew we were there and what we were doing - what you don't see in the video was that she popped out from behind the shelter at the last second and hence screwed up the shot I had lined up, but hey ho there you go, some you win, some you loose......................... :eek:hwell:

And Pete - you're right about the video, that is one of his better ones, I told him to just let the train run through the camera at Iver, as he has a penchant for panning round for the going away shot - but the angle there was too tight and there is a signal directly behind so that is all you would have seen which would have ruined it, a bit like at langley on the return!, so yeah good video.

I think what you're asking for is that the platform is completely clear of people and if you manage that, then you really do have a lucky day. You very nearly did ! Having said that, Twyford, my favourite haunt usually has platforms full of people and it is a real challenge to get the shots without too much input not only from people but from the frequent HSTs and Turbos. We all seem to get caught at some time.
I rather think as I have said on the forums before that if you go to a station, then it is rather good to see plenty of others, mums, dads and kids who have taken the time to enjoy what we enjoy. Waving and whistling is all part of that scene as long as you don't suffer from the adult who wants to walk into your video as you say knowing full well that they will feature !!!! Unfortunately not a lot you can do if you want to avoid confrontation and I have certainly had to count to ten on occasions.
I still think your video was a great recollection of Bitterns visit, and I assume editing has worked pretty well
Another chance next Thursday ???? Cheers Pete

I think that's called silly o'clock on a Saturday/ Sunday morning and you still have to get there earlier than every body else to make sure you get 'the shot' you want! There have been occasions at Iver where there have been 20-30 photters etc strung along the platforms, so to get a 'person free' shot you have to go right to the front which seriously limits the kind of shot you can take!

And for everything else you say - that's life especially the w anchors of the 'screw you I've got my shot' brigade!!!!!

By the way the video is not mine, it's by some one I know - I phot he vids - I usually send him some stills to put on the front/back of his vid, but he seems to upload straight away before I've had chance to do anything with the stills!

As for next Thursday, I shall 'try' and get out there for the Brit ( fingers crossed)

I fail to see a 'mad' woman in this video. All I see is a blonde lady standing on the the platform who waves back to the footplate crew when they wave at her.
    Odd comment.

This is my video from Thursday, with 4464 sounding healthy. Considering 4464 was still 'cold' on Wednesday afternoon, I think SD have worked wonders by securing 4464 at such short notice.
