Funnily I was going to say I didn't know about what was happening with 35025 as things seemed quiet since she left Loughborough but then discovered she was being talked about in the Hengist thread so removed the comment in the post above.

Not really any news other than a discussion about Hengist moving to Loughborough where 35025 was moved from as it was supposedly in the way at Loughborough before she moved I think to Sellindge where I don't know whats hapening to her sadly.

Thanks for the reply Dan. So what is this about some parts lurking somewhere to fit onto a MN? Sorry; but I have obviously missed this information.. Just trying to ascertain where the parts are so to get an idea which loco they might be going on?

Tenwheeler's post was obviuosly a bit too deep for you! A lot of parts for 35025 were stolen and not thought to be for scrap metal. They are only going to be of use on another Bulleid so the question is, which one will they turn up on?

An interesting feature on newly restored 34053 I noticed the other day. The slider has been picked out in red. I was aware that the slider guide bracket was often red but to my knowledge I've never seen the slider - that is the bit that moves rather than the bit it moves in, just in case my terminology is out, painted like this. Is it prototypical? A rare feature?

You can just make it out in the pictures of Sir K on this site:

Indeed Steve. Just a word about 35025. We have her safely stored at Sellindge and sheeted up. The parts which survived the theft at Loughborough are under secure lock and key. We hope to announce a plan for the loco later this year.

Well, as they say: any news is good news. And if it means another merchant may have a future, then it's better news

An update from the SVR forum regarding 34053, posted by SVR Boiler Shop Manager Duncan Ballard on 27th June. Please bear in mind his comments regarding people's expectations were in relation to the SVR forum thread:

"EX SR Battle of Britain Class No 34053 ‘Sir Keith Park’ is receiving further remedial work subject to completion of Part 2 of its Insurance Examination.

Work is focusing on tooling of leaking smokebox tubeplate rivets, which were changed during its recent overhaul. Other work has focused on pipework and fittings, all of which are new.

Can people not be realistic and understand that it is not a ‘showroom car’ ready to drive but a steam locomotive that has had a substantial six figure sum spent on it, to transform it from a derelict wreck to a complete locomotive.

Nobody can achieve perfection with a steam locomotive, not even the ‘Big Four’.

We are working together with Southern Locomotives Limited to ensure the locomotive enters traffic as soon as practically possible. However it needs a final insurance examination (in Steam) and full SVR Examinations in line with our Safety Management System.

I'm sure all people using this Forum will be interested in the progress, and when time is available updates are available on the Severn Valley Railway Engineering Website.

Sorry for the newbie question, but contrasting this picture of a splendid Bodmin with the sad shot of her on the A4's coming home (temporarily) thread, can I ask what happened to her? Is there a plan to return her to service?

Many thanks - and apologies for the ignorant question.

General consensus is that nothing will happen before 2014. Some sort of agreement runs out then and Bodmin, along with several other locos, will up sticks and go somewhere else. After that it's unclear I'm afraid

Hang on, this is very fishy, these are boiler backhead fittings, you tend to have these made to order, their the water level gauge glass bodies , the combined type so might be standard loco , dont think their Gw, unless they came off 2 different locos as the GW only had one

Why is it fishy? Secondhand gauge frames are still about, although most are now on restored locos or with groups restoring locos. It does not look like there is a cone machined on the drain, so that eliminates the gauge frames for Standard locos and rebuilt Bulleids. However, there is a cone machined on the the drain of the other one. (Just visible bottom right corner). Also both are the same hand.

There was a rumour a little while back that 73096 and 34016 would be bought by WCRC but wouldn't think too much into it because as Irwell Steam says nothing can happen until after 2014 when those locos leave the MHR.

I must confess, part of me can't but be excited about when they do move, afterall, when has so many locomotives left a railway to go elsewhere at once? I can't think of any other occurrence like this happening before. Makes me also wonder where they might go and what new futures await.

Could someone just remind us again what locomotives are leaving in 2014? Besides 73096 and 34016 that is, and I know that they won't all leave at once of course, it would be a road traffic nightmare otherwise...!

Thing to remember is that only one of these 5 engines is going to be in working order when they do move away, so who ever does allow these engines onto their railway or centre will have a lot of work to do, to return any of the others to service assuming he doesnt split the collection up and sell most of them
