"a" - wait a minute - maybe its a good job The Cambrian isn't running this year after I go giving 'em ideas, isn't it!?!

Maybe that's the real reason those Scottish signalmen used to have bikes - the run across passnegers as they boarded!

I woulden't read too much into that, no point advertising for something until a plan to make it operational is viable, otherwise it's just wasting space on a website.

After the fiasco with Spitfires trip on saturday, they were going to Pwellheli with the 97s but Network Rail said that only 5 coaches plus loco could go west of Barmouth in futcher so that would mean loco support and 4 coaches that is if steam is allowed in the futcher.Spitfire ended up at Aberyswyth.

While it will be a pain in the backside for now, hopefully it won't be permenant, as the stop boards (and the sections start/end programmed into ERTMS) can be changed, hardley any changes trackwise have taken place on the Coast route, so load 8 + still physically fits the loops, it's just a case of "computer says no" currently, not the hardest thing in the world to move a stop board and do a reprogramme of ERTMS, just a question of when/if.

Well, the whole world depends on computers these days...
So sad that the Cambrian can't run this year, as it's one of my most waited for tours.

I've done Shrews - Machynlleth - Pwhelli, apart from Talerdigg, Salop - Mach is nothing to write home about and Im told the Aber branch isn't much better, north of Dovey Jcn blows the rest of the Cambrian out the water for scenary and performance interest.

Not quite the truth. There is certainly an issue with train length on the Branch (Dovey - Pwllheli) The real problem on Saturday was timings. The return would have to have left Pwllheli about 2 hours before it arrived to have any chance of getting back the same day. If NR want to permanently reduce the capacity of the line in terms of Train Length (or anything else) They will have to go through the network change procedure. I can think of at least 3 TOC/FOC's who will object.
