Following her 'memorable' trip on the 9th July, I see that Clan Line is back on normal duty tomorrow with the trip to Bath and Bristol. Again she is on the Ascot Wokingham line to Reading and I shall be seeing her through Winnersh or Earley. Just a thought for any experts on this line from steam days; would there ever have been occasion for a Merchant to travel this route to Reading. ?? I didn't move to Reading area till early 70's which obviously was well after steam. Pete

Good to hear she's on the move. I'm hoping to see her at Temple Meads. Always good photo opportunities there.

Clan Line and VSOE passed Sydney Gardens on time at 12:40. The loco in prestine condition as usual despite the 'atmospheric conditions'. Good to hear the loco whistling up to a young child who was waving at the train.
    Nice touch. <BJ>

I say this every time I post on a Clan Line thread, but 35028 has never sounded so good! I might say it every time, but it is the truth! I managed to catch up with '28 at Thatcham, Newbury Racecourse (passed it on my 166) and at Kintbury, and my video is below. I was slightly worried when the chap on Clan Line's Twitter Feed said that 35028 had arrived at Reading nearly 25 minutes early, thankfully he said that he was a quick off the mark and 35028 arrived at the correct time.

The link to my video is here: 35028 - The VSOE to Bristol 18-07-12 - YouTube

What a machine ! Always been my favourite loco and probably always will be.

Does anyone know how many years 35028 has left on the main line before overhaul ? I seem to remember she returned in 2007 which would suggest 2014 on a 7 year ticket. Does that sound right ?

Just seen her go through Sunningdale. Only very slightly down on time. 13 up and pulling strongly. Looked and sounded wonderful! Fireman was working hard!!

Thanks, that's good news as she tends to be away longer than most while being overhauled

But it was exactly the same last year. Clan Line hauled a charter from Waterloo to Yeovil on 16th July. I remember walking back to the car at Grateley after the train had passed through. I was absolutely soaked. No chance of a lineside fire that day. <BJ>
