definitely, tickets received and loco is 48151, now there's a surprise! Timings appear to be much the same as last year.

Seems it's going to be a bit wet for tomorrows run to Blaenau. I was curious as to the note on UK Steam that times could be amended due to gauging issues between Llanrwrst and Blaenau. Also I see that UK Steam have listed a further run to Blaenau on the 14th August but RTC's website has the date as 21st August.

    According to NW Rail...

Network Rail has started work on the platforms by removing some of the tarmac at the back of the edging slabs and pushing them back, and are confident the work will be completed in time for Tuesday's steam special to run. Let's hope so. The train that made contact with the platform and led to a locomotive ban being applied was an infrastructure unit of some sort, possibly a tamper, or maybe a weed-killer...

Left the Junction on time and heading up the valley. No mention to passengers of any restriction so it looks as if it's going all the way.
Info just received from on board "repairs to platform edge at Llanrwst were carried out last week."

Update, "storming run up through Betwys but then stopped near Doleyddelan for what appeared to be a blow-up, before proceeding."

    Further update.

My contact tells me that having spoken to the crew at BF it turns out that 48151 was not short of steam on the climb, in fact the problem was they could not get water into the boiler fast enough as one injector was giving a bit of trouble so they stopped to get the level back up again... Problem sorted at BF together with lump of piston ring removed from cylinder drain cock....

Good to here she got through in the end, maybe NR should consider a new gauging test train, a Hall with a circular saw attached to the left hand cylinder ought to do the trick ;)

48151 met Lyd at a wet Blaenau Ffestiniog earlier this afternoon, before departing on time at 1600.

    Cheers,

    Phil.

Yes I am an active volunteer
One of the more interesting main line steam workings of the year - has an LNER engine ever been to Blaenau Ffestiniog? Surprised it isn't getting more chatter on here! I'm ceratinly looking forward to seeing some pics and video later. I rode on the line in a 150 for the first time a couple of years ago and was very impressed - can't be pleasant on the footplate in that really long tunnel!

I keep meaning to go on one of these Welsh Mountaineer trips but work keeps getting in the way. How are they doing passenger wise? I seem to remember last was going to be the year a one stage? Hope a few run next year as I will definately try to get on one.
