    The car park shot!

...... and here's another shot of T-BF, with various other unsavoury characters, in the Charles Street 'gallery'.

Unless anyone else can assist in corroborating the fact, or otherwise, a quick check of my records seems to suggest that the last steam-hauled passenger train over this short section of line was on 13th April 1968 - with 'Oliver Cromwell'.

    Hi all,
Saw the tour at stockport today as I was heading there for the Railshow anyway. Made for a brilliant sight and took on some advice from my last visit on friday and went to the other platform.
    Very nice departure.
Nice video ralph! Notice it got a bit crowded at that car park?

I think Gordon Hodgson has that title; he has fired over the Waverley route, which is saying something.

We were on there today, the coach in front of the green buffet car. I clocked some sprightly running in places, with averages of 70+ for long stretches. The highest my GPS recorded was just shy of 79mph, right before we had to start slowing for Conwy:D

Mind you - one must not forget - Other A4s have visited Manchester termini before - the 1960s black and white ones specially hand polished by yours truly, and no-one squealing "trespass" and no-one died!

Excellent, even though she's still tight [engineering term], clearly she wants to spread her wings, and of course thanks to the driver, clearly a man who understands what the engine is telling him......

At some point No 9 will end up on her home territory of the east coast main line, and no doubt Ron Smith will have his hand on the regulator, would be great if some one could get some new footplate video action on No 9.........

I shall tell Mr. Manton that you consider him an "unsavoury character." I'm sure he'll be delighted. :)

Tickets and times arrived for Sunday's trip which we've booked on after RTC's very persuasive offer arrived in my inbox. Motive power listed as 45305 or 60009. Guessing the A4 is the most likely candidate? The Llandudno branch is included as part of the trip.

The excursion doesn't venture up the Llandudno branch Acorb, it stops at the junction, from where you make your own way up the branch.

Holyhead is still a fecking awful place, no wonder there are so many discounted tickets around.

UKSteam shows Llandudno. The problem is train length and if RTC have struggled to sell tickets they may have reduced the length and be able to run to town.

I thought Llandudno was now supposed to be 5 coaches. I know bookings are down but I doubt if they are that low.

t0729b.htm Looks like the Llandudno branch to me, but doesn't hang around long so maybe that's how they get around the issue. Holyhead will never be a picturesque holiday resort as it is functional, but isn't rail touring just as much about the journey as the destination? How many times do we go to Carlisle and dive straight into the pub? The North Wales coast is still a pretty scenic line with plenty of fast running to boot. £40 odd quid for a thrash behind an A4 seems a pretty good deal to me!
