Thanks for saving me the bother of pointing that out.

Also please bear in mind that the last overhaul for 60007 was intended (and was certainly in the chassis area) the largest overhaul since the double chimney was fitted by BR in the late 1950's. All of this information is on the trusts website , along with a significant history of the loco and it's class mates in service. The SNGLPT website is well worth a study for those interested in A4's in general and No.7 in particular.

Many of the questions frequently asked on NatPres, over the past few years, about this loco and A4 liveries , boilers, tenders etc. would have answered by a quick look at this rather excellent website ( a prize winner in 2006!)

Latest news on 60007. Worked Saturday/Sunday on NYMR, failed on shed this morning with an injector fault. Today should have been the first day of the all steam summer timetable but because of 60007 this did not happen.

What with the injector problems, trouble with the middle cylinder and potentially more boiler stays to replace Guycarr360's photos at work on Saturday may be an interesting record of one of the few days the loco actually works on the NYMR this year.

Not to hijack the 60009 thread with 60007's problems, but when was 60007 last overhauled ?

If you recall this latest overhaul of 60009 was because it was having a similar reliability record and so the owner decided to drop it for overhaul early.

The last overhaul was concluded in 2006. And yes, I think another overhaul to do the job properly would be in order. The problem is that the trusts business plan is so shot full of holes now that they have not the resources to fund it. I can forsee the SNGLPT being wound up at some stage in the future and the locomotive being passed to another charitable trust (Royal Scot and General perhaps?) to secure it's future.

    Re: Crewe overhauls - 60009

Some years ago it was pointed out to me that some locomotives were being looked after by people who did not look beyond their own personal involvement with them. You might call it "toy to play with" syndrome, the engine is looked on only in terms of their own lifetime.
60007 does not appear to be the locomotive it once was in the days of Julian Riddick and John Graham. I cannot help but put two and two together.

Maybe the NRM would take 60007 on to complement FS, and to allow them to have an A4 running without risking their precious Mallard.

    Only half joking....

Perhaps the mods could move the 60007 posts to the last 60007 thread?

    From NYMR Forum this morning

SNG is out running today. Well done to those who worked hard yesterday to get her back out so quickly!

60007 out and running on the NYMR today, have to keep our fingers crossed that she manages a few days of working without problem before she is taken out of service for the middle cylinder issues to be resolved!

Probably worth posting that she is also booked for a re-run of The Tynesider from Ncle to Kings X on 24.11.12. With a return in Mid Dec back to Ncle.

Hope all issues can be ironed out in time....

As a 'Southerner' even I have massive sympathy for the problems that seem to beset No 7 at present. She deserves better. And let's not forget that (IIRC) she remains the operational locomotive with the highest recorded speed for steam - 112 mph, Stoke, 1959.

Another good reason for NRM to be interested?

Absolutely. Mallard may have the badge but SNG has the name and the credentials. I still remember 28/10/67. Crewe to Warrington - start to stop - 22 min 42 sec for 24.15 miles with a max of 95 at Hartford. And all this with a 'cold' fire!

If they are the originals then this could be a 'life expired' problem. Unusual possibility but not unknown. Either way, hopefully things can be sorted quickly. This is not the way it should be for such a great loco.
