    Yes, that's true.

Do DBS operate 4464 though ? Could be an interesting and worthwile exercise for somebody to compile a full list of main line approved locomotives and their respective operators i.e. DBS / WCRC or both to which we could all refer.

The list of locos on,y operated by one of these seems to be growing, another issue with the current set up that an "umbrella" type organisation might help to solve ?

Yes, DBS do operate 4464, they have done before for Steam Dreams.
Also, All pacifics (bar those that are owned by WCRC) can be operated by DBS, apart from 70013 I think...

WCRC owning pacifics, wishful thinking maybe, unless you know something???

Not really, I believe 46233 is often lit up by am Thursday for a Saturday run

Many thanks for the information, that's very useful. 60009's entry will need amending at some stage now it's just acquired a new "ticket"

    You have missed something...

Waterman sold the part of LNWR which is responsible for the maintenance of "modern" rolling stock etc (i.e. the bit which includes Barton Hill) to Arriva in 2009, but retained ownership of "LNWR Heritage" (the bit responsible for the overhaul of steam locos etc and which is based at Crewe Heritage Centre).

    Keep up at the back!

70013 is not fitted with through air pipes. The ones you can see in the photo were a temporary set fitted for the GB. (No air cock if you look carefully.

Thanks for the definituve answer, Andy. So, in short, double-headed Brits could operate in either vac or air-brake mode (using the same temporary arrangement), and could therefore potentially be operated by either WCRC or DBS.

I can only answer, WCR would have no issues or problems operating 70000/13 Double headed on a job where a) A tour operator requested it, and b) the loco owners/operators were prepared to hire the locos. The favoured solution would be to work VB to alleviate issues with Support coach brake compatabiliy.

Thanks, for the information that had passed me by I have to say.

Interestingly, Arriva's website includes a press release concerning the sale in 2009, referring to the Barton Hill site among others, (see below), but the LNWR site's Company Profile section makes no mention of it, despite including the fact the company was founded by Pete W.

Sounds reasonable, and very much a case of "if the will is there"

It'd be good to see for sure but the appeal to potential travellers is probably somewhat less.

If working the train VB, there'd need to be a degree of forward planning to ensure the necessary rolling stock was available too I guess, and we all know that isn't always a given. Maybe WCRC have more VB stock available to them than others. I loose track of which stock is owned by whom and what braking systems etc are fitted. The info on UK Steam is definitely out of date. Another legacy of the non-standard way of operating that has become the norm !

What's wrong (was wrong) with Britannia? Did something happen after last week's Torbay Express?

It is interesting that a loco can take a train to Kingswear and back in the style 70000 did on 22/07, and then after the tour is over we're told a spring has been broken. Presumably this wasn't discovered until after the tour was back at Barton Hill ? Had it been noticed earlier, would the loco have been failed "mid-tour" ?

Probably only just been discovered, though why it would be in steam in Bristol today I have no idea...

Indeed, that remains a mystery. As I live in Weston-super-Mare though I may just take a trip to Temple Meads tomorrow and see what I can find out. There's an FGW Service Delivery Assistant there who's a an enthusiast himself. Good chance he'll know something, : )

Uh oh, 4464 failed with brake problems on the Dorset Coast Express and that tour was then cancelled halfway through... Hope 70000 or 4464 works by then or is it possible to tow in a replacement?
