We must stop agreeing with each other or people will start to talk. :)
Going further off topic, a friend of mine used to bring his lad with us on day trips from a very early age. He was always a pleasure to have around being both polite and well behaved. Poor lad had a stroke at age 5 and a brain haemorrhage at age 15 yet he was never any trouble on our trips out and has grown up into a fine young man. If only they could all be like that. His only failing being that he supports Liverpool. :)

Ian, you see bribing me with that extra large piece of haddock worked.:yo:

I have also found that Children who have health problems and would have the right to say 'why me' and be depressed are often the most delightful and content.

Not sure why it doesn't appear on steam tours currently, but from what I've seen on 2 Diesel tours this year (20's to Eastleigh Works & Southampton Docks and 37's to Parkadillack & Heathfield) the concept certainly appears to work and be well patronised.

Is that why I've been on 3 tours this year (one of which went horribly wrong) with a 4th booked in August ?, Im fed up of operators biting the hand that feeds them just because I may want a phot of a tour im not booked on it, keep biting it and that hand may well be taken away from you.

I've just returned home after seeing GWR 2-6-2T 5521 running at the Avon Valley Railway. A wonderful sight and sound. At Oldland I was pleasantly surprised how young the lad was who uncoupled the coaches ready for the loco to run round. Thankfully when the lad was younger he was not deterred from his hobby by older men who tutted at his mere presence. The young people of this world are the future of our hobby. There are obviously youngsters who misbehave but I find that it is a very small minority. Most children are very well behaved and are a pleasure to be with. <BJ>

    Hi GWR david
No one is being personal here, so no need at all really for your defensive reply, maybe i was not too clear? apologies.

You know exactly what i am talking about, its re some line-side photographers who never travel, never donate and are often downright rude and plain stupid in terms of safety to get the ''best shot'' but are the first to complain, am i right?
on the other hand we have many superb photographers who donate much to
the topic of steam for the press and our industry and who do their bit to promote. so it works both ways.

It is not about passengers who travel on steam tours like you wanting an odd photo as you say... so please sorry if my comment lead to your misunderstanding.
so please do not think at all anyone thinks that of you personally...sorry you had a duff tour recently (we all have at one time!)

the fact is that you re-book and take the rough with the smooth is like many of us who book steam tours.
the operators appreciate you and need your business.

once again sorry for the misunderstanding (often happens here init lol)

    No Problem then ROGrace :)

It's just the generalisation with photters sometimes, I'll grant you point is valid about certain people, just try not and tar us all with the same brush, as others will follow suit.

And he would have been welcomed by my organisation. Our age spread of volunteers is currently 17 to 70+, male and female, and we all get along like a house on fire. Just because some of us have no time for unruly kids it does not mean that youngsters are not welcome in our ranks of volunteers.

Quite, I know a number of enthusiasts who make me feel like an old git at 28, a number of whom can't of left school yet who are great people to be around, granted they are probably a bit older than the age range Spamcan & Eco are debating, but it's going to prove the point that not all youngsters are unruly kids or moody teens.

I've no problem with well behaved kids whatsoever, it's just the scenario of say going out for a quiet pub lunch somewhere and having to endure screaming kids racing up and down the aisle next to your table, I find such a scenario very offputting and would try and avoid a place where that happens in future.

I vaguely remember being 28, I'd been involved with 34081 for four years already by then. Now I'm about to get my old git's railcard. Where has the time gone? :)

Bulleidish please! The Spamcan moniker comes from my association with 34081, not my day job which is decidedly fishy.

I thought the rumour was unrebuilt bulleids were decidedly fishy, hence why BR rebuilt them.
