Plan to build a replica L1 and J39?

    Is there any new news on this project to build an L1 steam locomotive or has it been abandoned? Also has the project to build a J39 also dead in the water?

    Have you had a look at the thread 'New Builds - how many will really work' on page 2 of this section? I think most of us have had our say on this matter but you may find something that goes part way towards answering your question.

    Its a pity because an Maunsel L1 would be an bit of a missing link in southern locos, i know we have the T9 and D1 and later the schools class, but the D is never likily to steam again, but with so many ill advised schemes out there there are some such as the l1,that s if they had the backing of a major railway would be taken more seriously, for instance, if it was someone who was connected to the bluebell who was behind the L1 it might stand a chance where as it will be ignored until either it fizzles out or we hear that the frames have been cut

    Seems a shame to paint them black - I was looking forward to seeing the nice shiny copper boilers!
