I travel pleb class so will see if I get moved around on Sunday. Not that I'll be bothered as I'll be in an end vestibule with my recording gear for one leg of the trip.

I know what goes on in foreign lands, I also know foreign lands don't contain the likes of "Idiot lawyers 4 u" , common sense died sometime in the 90's in Britain where you were responsible for your own actions and if you died through such stupidity, it was your own fault.

Without a doubt I agree with this but we have to accept the country as it is and people like that idiot in the video gives network rail a big reason to stop mainline steam something no one wants so I hope the btp do find this lost cause and take him away before he causes a big problem.

Here we go again. I doubt the "idiot in the video" gives NR a big reason to stop main line steam. Trespass is a daily occurrence on the national network but most of it has nothing to do with steam specials.

I think the only fools on here are those that think that banging on about it will make a difference. If people are daft enough to trespass they are certainly not going to take a blind bit of notice of anything said here. As for the ticking time bomb, it must have a bloody long fuse as people have been saying this for ages and ages.

I just hope that the time never comes when some one posts along the lines of, "I told you so".

Says the man who cries "Trespass" every time he sees a shot taken from anywhere remotely near the line side. I can recall more than one occasion where the photographer has proved you well and truly wrong.

And i can prove another video clip you mention, was viewed by a Senior BBC cameraman, who we do work for, who in his view said it was the wrong side of the fence, with out doubt.

So if you want to sling mud, expect a bit to stick eh!!!!

And the most recent clip, if im not mistaken, both are the wrong side, is that OK????

As somebody involved in the restoration of a loco, you should be ashamed of your attitude.......

Difference being if it's caused by steam charters there more likely to take action and network rail havent been the best supporters of steam with the steam ban on the wcml last year don't want to give them reasons to act more firmly .

    Re: Te Royal Duchy 2012

All I would plead for is common sense by all "guilty" parties. This is not the 60's when branch lines were closing and along with steam specials generating trespass on an amazing scale. But no one batted an eye lid and, as far as I know, there were no fatalities or serious injuries. In those days we did not have the heavy handed and much despised Health & Safety executive (can't play conkers at school now without goggles!!).

Standing in the 4 foot is totally unacceptable in 2012. Yes the bloke will argue that it was a siding/loop and no trains are going to run him down there and will, in his own mind, regard his actions has justified. Others appear to be guilty of standing the wrong side of the fence and therefore also trespassing.

But listen. Were they doing any harm to anyone? I saw an image at Bristol Temple Meads prior to the departure of Torbay Express and 2 persons went down the platform end ramp to get a photo. Are we going to have a go at them too when they posed no threat to themselves nor to anyone else?

A mature debate is always in order. I pose the question. Shouldn't we adopt a level of common sense and proportionality on this topic and steer clear of some of the inane contributions that do nothing to intellectual balance to the issue.

    Nick

    Re: Te Royal Duchy 2012

All of that is all very well, but how do you legislate for common sense ?

It used to be a given, but those days are gone, and the reality is that many people out there only consider their actions in terms of what is immediately of interest to them. As has been mentioned elsewhere, you can't hand the decision over what and where is safe, and / or not safe to the untrained / unwise on something like a railway network. There are far too many potential implications that make that a non starter.

Yes, the HSE may be perceived as having a lot to answer for but don't forget they only attract attention, (from a largely hostile press), when they do something daft as in the conkers scenario, and any organisation can have a few PR blunders. By and large I would argue they do the thinking for those that can't, and protect a lot of businesses from themselves, who if they were allowed to operate unchecked, would more than likely preside over some very dangerous practices which would be meat and drink for the litigation Lawyers, who we also like to despise in the same breath with which we utter derision for the HSE.

Like HH, I would like to see "common sense from all guilty parties". Unfortunately that ain't gonna happen so what do you do next, let a few people die and leave it to society to sort out ? That sounds a bit like the argument for not having a system for self regulation of the main line steam scene, and leaving it to the market to sort out ? Either scenario would ultimately lead to the same outcome, i.e. the end of main line steam, which I for one don't want to see happen
