    Hi all,
Any times for this anywhere for next week? I'll be in crewe for the Steam gala so was going to see this first.
Looks like an interesting tour for the Castle! Itinerary shows that the 47 will be on the back for towing on the parts the 8f does tender first.
Enjoy, anyone who is on this tour!
    Matt

I don't think that's quite right - the train is only steam-hauled as far as Llandudno Junction (presumably with the 47 on the back). 5043 will then go light engine to Valley for turning while the train is diesel-hauled to Blaenau and back to LJ where 5043 re-joins the train for the return to Tyseley.

By the way - going slightly off topic but I've not seen it mentioned on here that RTC's "Welsh Mountaineer" to Blaenau on 21st August is now scheduled to be hauled by 61994 rather than the 8F.

Correct, as the 8f departed Carnforth to York today (tues) to be stand by engine and to do the Waverley on Sunday, as 46115 failed at Carlisle last Sunday, and is now at Carnforth for repairs.

Sorry misunderstood the itinerary a bit, understood. I was using the 8f as an example though.
    Thanks for correcting me!

The timings for this tour on uksteam seem to suggest a return through Birmingham New Street with nowhere to attach a diesel pilot loco.....? Will 5043 run through doing all the work itself?

Probably go to the overbridge in Curzon Park, Chester to see this. This has seems to have become a regular for Vintage Trains since it was introduced.

5043 stands briefly at New Street before an impressive departure into the darkness. Is this the first un-piloted steam through the station?

Nice to see the Earl looking well again yesterday! Bit crowded around Crewe station, but ah well, got a shot I liked :)
