Good luck with that, sadly, I won't be making the trip this year, but such is life. I suspect that sadly it could be a few years before i show my face in the UK again for any rail gala's, though hopefully not.

This looking like a busy weekend for me, starting the Friday by Goodrington Sands just finishing off a weeks holiday (no doubt enjoying the previous weekends mainline action and Paignton & Dartmouth) , driving back to Birmingham, quick pit stop at home, to wash, change and eat before catching a train to Kidderminster for late afternoon for an overnight stay until Saturday evening.

If you see me come say hello, I'll be the one resembling death warmed up by late Saturday!.

Suprised no one's mentioned it yet, but Safari Curve/Rifle Range is probably a good place for a "first timer", it's the proverbial shooting gallery along there with various angles and views from the lane and surrounding hills right up to the Tunnel, also have the benefit at this point of the line running West - East with most spots on the South side of the line so the Sun angle is good for most of the day.

To reach it, come out of Bewdley Station, turn left and follow the road until you reach a T junction with the main Kidderminster - Stourport road (the SVR bridge over this bypass should be viewable if you look to the left, to help with reference points) turn right here and the road you need is the next left ( A sandy single track road), however I woulden't recommend going up here to park as spaces further along are limited and often the gate at the bottom is locked, so instead take the next right off the main road into a picnic area/free car park which is across the road and about 50 yards down from the lane, between the start of the lane and the phot spots should take 10/20 mins depending on which spot you pick, if you follow the lane under the remains of the Stourport line bridge, your going in the right direction, carry on about 100 yards further and the various viewpoints from the lane, field gates, up on the hill etc etc should start becoming obvious.

If you want the "tunnel shot" follow the lane until you reach a T junction (the left fork going under the SVR) take the right until you reach the "hangar" for the small airstrip, go up the railway side border of the field and the tunnel shot should become obvious once you get there, if you follow the border round the field to the top of the hill, there's some good panoramic shots up there too, certainly no shortage of shots within that 1/2 mile.

As with Hay Bridge/Eardington, these are popular spots so don't expect a "rare" shot.

I will be there from start of Friday till close on Sunday as always - looking forward to it as always. The only downside I have is that if it is ASG time once again I do wonder where the year has gone although I do think that the lack of a proper summer has sped that along athough the positive side is my favourate event of the year is nearly upon us - do you know I haven't missed one since 1993 and since 2002 the Mrs has been enjoying them too so on a personal note this year and next are celebrations for me - 10 years this year since Sarah started coming with me and next year is 20 years of SVR ASG all night running - something that has always made is special and if I do say so myself - long may it continue!!!

I don't think that will be a problem, I've heard that the signalman that let us down last year is no longer there. Really looking forward to 3 days on non-stop continuous steam action.

Yet again. This time of year has rolled around so quickly. A week with the Heavy gang at Bridgnorth followed only 4 weeks later 5 days of solid work over the gala. O and th start of the rugby season. Gotta love this time of year!

Thinking of coming up to do the Autumn Steam Gala for the first time this year and would do Saturday morning until Sunday evening. How frequent are the trains usually through the night? I'm guessing its mainly just enthusiasts which ride them?

Don't feel too bad, while it's not ideal, I am too busy trying to save my home museum here in Toronto and ensure it's future to be off gallivanting and vacationing afar at the moment, coupled with changes at work and life that are just preventing the time and budget for overseas trips.

At the moment, i can't see me being in the UK before 2015 unless something drastic changes again in my life. The bigger disappointment than not getting to railfan and enjoy steam is that is it means that i won't see my Grandmother in Northern Ireland or Grandparents in Scotland for the foreseeable future as one has never travelled anywhere, and my grandparents in Scotland are getting to the age where transatlantic flights and long travel in general just aren't reasonable for them anymore.

My vague recollection is that someone failed to show for a shift or at the very least was quite late in arriving. I stand to be corrected on that though.

I believe it is the same arrangement as for previous ASG's on the SVR. Available to pre order online (expected delivery date early Sept) or at booking offices on the day for £5. Don't know how much info will be on the public timetable this year (eg, which loco hauls which train)

Connecting train at Kidder was allowed to leave before we had arrived, so passed in the loop instead of the station meaning we were stuck at Kidder for an hour and so missed out all our afternoon connections. Still reached 455miles of haulage mind that weekend.

With regards to the WTT, last year I made the suggestion of whether non-public service moves (LE/ECS etc) could be highlighted in the WTT as attached. Could this suggestion be forwarded on to those concerned (ignore the red highlight)?

Not so much "was allowed to leave" as there was damage to points which prevented trains crossing in the station at the time, though the effect was the same.

2 sets of load 4, made up of each half of the Blood & Custard Mk1 set is the usual overnight script.

Hopefully the Southern Region engines will be paired with the 2 MK1 sets during the day wherever possible as that's semi authentic (ie inter regional working), though I suppose the U Boat on a few GWR's could do a passable impression of somewhere like the Barnstaple/Ilfracombe area.

I know this issue comes up every year but how do the tickets work for those planning to spend the night riding on the line say from 5pm Friday to 8am the following morning for example. Do I need two Day Rovers?

Unless there has been a change, yes you will need two.

How it has worked in the past is that (for example) if you want to travel on a train which is timetabled to depart from one end of the line and arrive at the other during the same day, you need a rover for that day. So, if it leaves BN at 0:30 on Saturday, you need a Saturday rover. However, if you want to travel on a service which is timetabled to leave BH at 23:00 on Friday and arrive at KR after midnight (i.e. Saturday), you can travel using either a Friday or a Saturday rover.

What is less clear is the validity of car parking tickets, as they expire at the end of the day purchased and, as far as I know, you can't buy multi-day tickets.
