    As has been said, Scots Guardsman performed very well today....when it was working. The climb to Ribblehead with over 400 tons was completed in only 17 and a half minutes from Settle Junction. Having swept across the Junction at 64, speed fell back to 44 by Stainforth Sidings but we then kept between 40 and 45 all the way up before easing for the viaduct. It did indeed look and sound great.

    So that's two West Coast engines with lubrication related problems in under a week. I guess we have to put that down to bad luck.

    I wouldn't mind either. Are you out for this? I'm driving up for the day, think I'll try the north end of Blea Moor tunnel for the north-bound leg and somewhere around Mallerstang for the southbound.

    Both 44932 and 48151 are at York, 44932 was failed on the SSE on Thursday with 48151 replacing it at Scarborough for the return so don't know if the 5 is fixed?
