According to an update on NG15 134 by Team Wylfa on Barrie Hughes' WHR site NG15 120 was sold by the WHHR to "Collection X"

Yes - just saw that too. That'll be the last anyone ever sees of 120, then ... :(

"It was announced on February 6th 2009 that no. 120 had been sold to a WHR Ltd member, and would be restored at a private site with the intention of eventual use on WHR Ltd services." That'll never happen.

At least there is still 113 and 134 though, eventually....

I questioned this on the WHR e-group. Peter Johnson replied that he though this is not the case, Collection x already has 121, so maybe Clive is misinformed.

At Dinas there is 134 undergoing restoration, and 133 ( not 113) outside with the new tender for 134 adjacent giving a good impression of what 134 will eventually look like.

    Hopefully 109 won't follow it!

I'd be surprised if this was true - i've not seen it mentioned before and as Peter Johnson pointed out on the WHR e-group Collection X already has one in better condition.

I like your certainty on this matter Mr Auckland, do you have some inside knowledge?

Who need inside knowledge when you can make sweeping statements with little evidence to back them up?

    Hi Ian,

I was up at Brecon Mountain two years ago when 121 made as surprise visit for an assessment, I asked at the time and was told the boiler barrel was shot to pieces, but the chassis was reasonable, what ever that means, somewhere I have a few photos of said loco outside of the works at the BMR.

I am not sure just how many NG15 experts we have in the UK, but I have heard that the NG15s in the UK range from a collection of rust to a box of parts that need everything renewing.

As much as i would like to see all of them working in the UK, I cant see it happening some how.

    Regards

    Thank-you

Well 133 and 134 were both supposed to be in better condition than Garratt 87, which has been back in service a couple of years now. So they are neither a collection of rust nor a bag of bits. Just low priorities.

I don't know about 120 - maybe it was the boiler that was wanted? It certainly had been reduced to a bag of bits.

It is interesting that 121 was being assessed - presumably for restoration to working order? Would it fit on the VoR? Presumably it would fit on the BMR , but where else?

The VoR has one overbridge, which also goes over the mainline with significant clearance, and the VoR GW locos are the widest on the 2' in this country by a good 6" as discussed on another thread recently. If a loco will go round the bends, it will definitely fit on the VoR!

A large collection of NG locomotives and a quantity of track and rolling stock from various lines around the world - while some are currently sitting in a shed on the VOR. the rest are believed to be somewhere in Surrey. Unfortunately the PRNGT wiki page no longer has a list of the loco's believed to be involved, though according to posts on the WHR e-group it does indeed now contain 120.

I would have thought it was the bends rather than the clearances. Even at Sandstone the NG15 is barred from the top end because of the tightness of the curves and I would have said (not as a surveyor!!!) that those on the VoR were tighter

I have today seen the locomotive and spoken at length to its owner and can confirm the following.

The locomotive has no connection to "Collection X", the Phylis Rampton Trust or the V of R and is privately owned.

The loco is subject to an ongoing longish term restoration and as yet there are is no further news to detail.

The loco is stored at a private site and is not available to visit.

There are no details or confirmation as to where the loco will run as this is still a long way off and far too early for such a decision.

An authorised photo is attached !!!!!!!

I hope this clarrifies the situation as to this loco as best as possible at this time.
