It was only in the last few weeks, number 9 was revealed as the booked loco, so yes, it's an intriguing one.

60009 seems to have nothing booked in the immediate future so maybe it is due some planned maintenance after an intensive period.

The 60009 trip was cancelled due to industrial action at DBS.

Well, having looked at the options on the letter we had to cancel our booking and tick the refund option. Over two weeks later I have heard nothing back from RTC after sending the letter back. I have read elsewhere on here about RTC's reluctance to give refunds and wondered if anyone else booked on a cancelled trip has picked the refund option and not heard anything.

I've asked for refunds on 2 or 3 occasions and not had any problems. Did you pay by credit or debit card? If so, have you checked whether RTC have credited your account, but just not told you?

I have never had the slightest problems with RTC in providing refunds. If you paid by card the money will most likely have been credited back into the account you used but without notification from RTC.

Likewise never had an issue with refunds with RTC, either straight back to payment card or booking transferred to another requested trip.

Thanks for your replies. I've checked my account but nothing has been paid back into it yet from RTC.

I think that's more a case of they don't like giving any form of compensation when things don't go according to plan, whereas Steam Dreams will usually offer you something like a discount off a future tour. If a train is actually cancelled I don't think they have any option about giving a refund.

Have got to admit when a major problem occured with a tour i did with RTC, had an email on monday morning, and half the tour fee refunded the same day.

From that point of contact, thought there customer service was excellent.

Is that over the DBS strike in September & possible added dates, or lack of bookings, I wonder?

It was a West Coast operation, so not affected by the union action.

That implies the latter reason then - lack of bookings - ah well...

I hope the 27/10 Hadrian runs then.

Is there any danger of the DBS action spreading elsewhere though?

Well it seems that ASLEF are in dispute with DBS, so unless the 'brothers' in other unions feel that it's worth them losing pay over the matter, probably not.

Hmm, apparently the ECML is closed north of Newcastle over several weekends in September/October, with diversions via Carlisle - is this why the Hadrian's been caped, & nothing else? However, the closure's been planned for several months, so surely RTC had been told it was still OK to run? If not, to 'pull the plug' only 5 weeks before its date seems a bit harsh - is it the old left hand/right hand thing at NR again?
