I am very pleased to announce that these three locos are now back from Canada and reside at Statfold.

They will be on display at our Enthusiasts Day on the 15th of Sept.

For the sake of completeness they are :-

Quarry class 0-4-0 ST HE 492 of 1889 "King of the Scarlets" and HE 1709 of 1932 "Michael" both former Dinorwic locos.

The third is 0-6-0ST Peckett No 1632 of 1923 "Liassic" from Southam Cement works.

It is interesting to note that "Michael" , being the last Quarry class built, will now keep company with "Statfold" the first of the new batch built here in 2005.

Brilliant news, received along with a little relief, having predicted they would end up at Statfold in the new issue of Narrow Gauge World which went to press two weeks ago but comes out tomorrow!

    Cheers

Hi Henry that is great news, looking forward to seeing the two Peckett's side by side if that is going to be possible.

The third Peckett, Jurassic, will be on display, sadly not in steam, at the L.C.L.R. gala at Winthorpe, Skegness tomorrow.

Perhaps one day we will get three of them together.

Is fourth survivor, Metazoic, still in bits at Bromyard, the frames were visible in the corner of the yard ??

    Regards

    Thanks Henry,

This is absolutely brillant news, congratuations to everyone involved. I am really looking forward to seeing them at Statfold at the enthusiasts day.

As I had posted previously on the "Locos in Canada" thread (below) - it will be very interesting to know what evidence is uncovered when King of the Scarlets is restored regarding the theory that it was part of an identity swap, not to mention if there is any evidence of the damage she recieved in the 1962 rockfall at Dinorwic.

It might be worth comparing notes with people at Bala.

    Best wishes,
    Gareth

Its early days to tell yet Gareth.

We havnt done a thing to the locos, we havnt even cleaned them!

We wanted to leave them so that visitors to our Enthusiast Day on the 15th can see then exactly as they came back from Canada.

What we have noticed ,though, is that an awful lot of the motion is stamped 822 (Maid Marian) !!

Oh yes and the whistle is stamped 680 (George B) !!

When we do restore King of the Scarlets we intend to make a full list of all numbers found so we can get a picture of what he is actually made up of

Indeed Henry, unless there was a colony which was kept at Gilfach Ddu for hat making.... ;-)

I've been working it out, am I right in saying that Statfold now has the largest collection of Quarry Hunslets? I make the count 5 at the moment....

Sorry Andrew, I meant gallery types of quarry Hunslets not Main line, which The'Ladies' come under, so by my rules that makes 3 at Boston Lodge.
