Following on from it's use in last weekend's gala at Llangollen , the coach is now back in the carriage works & today I started preparation work for a full repaint. Due to various factors the body sides are not up to the quality required & this work will remedy this. The coach will still be carmine & cream with the roof being painted in the proper shade of grey instead of the current dirty white.
Work is also required to the two passenger doors, vestibule floors at both ends, some minor glazing repairs & re-polishing of internal woodwork to remedy damage caused by water leakage.
This work will hopefully be completed by next Spring in time for the season's running.
Just in case anybody is not aware, this is the only surviving vehicle from the 1948 'Flying Scotsman' sets , later transferring to the 'Elizabethan (1953) & is the bar featured in the British Transport Films 'Elizabethan Express'.
Any offers of help to carry out this work would be very welcome. We mainly work Saturdays , when a good supply of tea & banter is available.

    Bob.

Good to hear news of the ordinary issues facing C & W departments, especially a vehicle of some significance such as the Thompson buffet. The vast majority of this type work involves a multitude of skills and very often a lack of funds.

At least the Llangollen seem to have very good C & W workshops. Is it possible to visit the workshops?

Visits to the workshops can be arranged. Please p.m. me if you want to come & have a look.
