    About time to!

Will certainly add to the USP, and will certainly tempt me to go out and see her a bit more next year :D

    **Punches the air with celebration!**

Great news! Fingers crossed DBS can provide some decent stock to go with her.

No need to apologise you made me a very happy man with that news. Can't wait to see 60163 in BR Express Blue. Hopefully she can be lined up with 6023 and 60007 at somepoint.

Dan, your post brings up the question of WHICH BR express blue! 60007 and 6023 look very different - which is right, and what will the Tornado people choose? I didn't dare ask about that yesterday!

You must be joking, this will now trigger another frothing session about the 'correct' shade.

It's OK with the colour it's got at the moment. The money that it would
cost for a repaint would be a big help in general maintenance.:hand:

BR steam era dark blue is a much underrated colour so I'll be very happy to see 60163 in this guise. I think it's a good marketing strategy too as it keeps 60163 in the forefront of steam news and discussion. Just need some blood and custard teaks to go with it now. :)

If you get one, would you have to re-spray it every year or so into a different "authentic" LNER livery?

Am absolutely over the moon. I have been waiting quietly and patiently for 60163 to appear in what I consider the best form of the A1s - my only quibble now is that I'd like them to put the rimless chimney back on for a late 1949/early 1950 representation of the A1s. Even if that doesn't happen, it is still an absolute thrill to hear she'll be going into blue.

RE the shade and colour - it's well known that the interpretations of the express passenger blue livery varied greatly from region to region. No one colour photograph of the livery I have studied shows exactly the same shade anyway! I'd prefer the 60007 interpretation to the 6023 version, as in modelling circles it seems to be accepted the Western region and London Midland variants were lighter in shade than the Eastern region's.

Whatever the actual shade, this will be the first blue Peppercorn A1 since the last was painted green in 1952 - won't that be a sight for sore eyes! :)

Should be a good choice. I find BR green a bit underwhelming on the big engines. 60163 and 46233 look very dark on anything apart from a bright sunny day. I've always liked the blue that 60007 wears, especially with the black and white lining that offsets it very well. I hope 60163 looks as good as 60007 when it gets turned out.

From the few images I've seen I think the A1's BR Blue was quite dark. I think it was darker than 6023's. However a Blue A1 will look stunning.

I have a feeling that Tornado's first trip in Blue could be on November 24th when she hauls the Cathedrals Express from London to Shrewsbury as there's a gap between October 13th when she hauls The Shakespeare Limited from Taunton (for Tornado anyway) to Stratford Upon Avon and the trip to Shrewsbury.

If I can I may go up to Kensington Olympia on December 15th on her way to Norwich.

I have held off this long.....

Being BR blue will it have the double arrows and yellow ends?!

Or is this a punt for additional revenue masquerading as a certain very important big blue engine from the isle of Sodor?- Smoke deflectors removed of course!
