I see on UKSteam.info that the loco for this is still "TBA", since Ollie is still under repair. I also see that Bittern moved from Bristol to Didcot yesterday (Monday). Tangmere is presumably still in Bristol (waiting for The Royal Dutchy on Sunday), and Britannia at Southall after returning to London on last Saturday's Mayflower. My guess is that Britannia is the most likely loco for The Welshman - it will probably run down to Poole on the back of the ECS very early Saturday morning, but I have no inside information. Another day when we must wait and see what turns up!

70013 wont be available because it's at Model rail live I believe. Britannia would be the safe bet I would imagine, unless bittern moves from Didcot.

Believe that 70013 is now repaired, and is due to be running up to Barrow Hill on Friday according to UKSteam. Confusion has arisen because tour was moved forward from 29th so Ollie would not have been available anyway.

Have not heard the tour is cancelled, so fingers crossed that a plan is in place.

4464 has a gauging issue at Dundas Viaduct I think. I imagine 70000 will be the engine of choice... As Mark says, we must wait and see!

Also, 4464 is off to the NVR for their gala in place of 71000 this weekend.

70000 Britannia it is according to both UK Steam and RTC website, both have been updated during the day. Outline times on RTC site quoted as actual times - no times on Uk steam as yet
Poole depart 0635 and pick up at Branksome! as well as Bournemouth etc due back at Poole at 2131 having left Cardiff at 1615.
Weather looks ok to start with but possibily rain at some stage in day - not a lot of light for the early part of the run with sunrise at 0655.

Thanks for pointing that out Dick, hadn't noticed myself :)

I can't remember where I read/heard this, but someone mentioned somewhere that this would be the first time 70000 has visited Cardiff in preservation... Would someone mind correcting me if I am wrong :)

Anyway, will try and make the morning - am away in the evening unfortunately. Might even try a couple of new locations ;)

Thanks David - as usual, you got there first (the later return leg from Cardiff soon popped up on Railway Touring's web site). Going to be a long day for the support crew! Hope the weather holds as promised.

WCRC class 47 top n tail Britannia across Poole Park into Poole at 0549 this morning on a very cold and crisp autumn morning.
70000 away from Poole at 0646 (ta Colin Stone WRGEN)
Top of Parkstone Bank after a nice crisp climb at 0650 and away from Bournemouth stop at 0702 after couple of small slips quickly checked. Lovely smoke and steam effects after clearing the bridge at Bournemouth.
Hope weather holds for those on route, beautiful byt very chilly start to the day here with a cold wind Dick

Away from Southampton Central about 3L, volcanic!

James at SVN, alive and well! Southampton is a nasty piece of work at 7:45 in the morning on a Saturday!

A short video from this morning, captured 70000 at Southampton Central, Crampmoor Ln and Romsey.

Not my best video, I left the Southampton clip run for too long, Crampmoor was too dark and Romsey was shot into the sun (and the second camera only just set up in time, hence the 'jolts' in the clip).

The video is here: 70000 - The Welshman 22-09-12 - YouTube

Anyway, please feel free to leave comments. Enjoy.
